| Posted over 5 years ago Hi I am just starting out I am taking a RN program at a local community college and also going for my CNA, so I can get some experience. I am working full time and have one kid in college and the second close behind. When I ask if there are any scholarships or grants out there I get told by my finacial aid department no but they can get me a loan. Does anybody have any luck with scholarships or grants. |

| Posted over 5 years ago *jstrahm:* I was able to get financial assistance after I applied for federal financial aid -http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. After which, I also received assistance through my technical school via small grants & loans. Check with your local high school to see if they can guide you as to where you might apply for local scholarships within your parameters. (minority, age, returning adult, special circumstances, etc.). Your school financial aid office should also be willing to guide you with this, but it appears that you've been down this road and hit a dead-end. Sounds discouraging! Keep looking. I would suggest joining the scholarship website "Fastweb.com.". They have tons of scholarships, internships, etc. I hope that this info has been helpful to you. I will be curious to know what you find out. Keep us posted and good luck! *zachsmommie:* Wholly cow, I know what you mean! It will make sense the more you study them. I made flash cards. Beside the description I put a picture on the back. Our A&P instructor gave us a good hint for studying the vertebral column: 7 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar. You eat breakfast around 7am, lunch around 12, and dinner around 5pm. This doesn't help with the classifications, but it was helpful to remember the count. Then you can't forget the sacrum and coccyx -maybe two after dinner snacks -one large, one small? |

| Posted over 5 years ago I've been in school for what seems like forever! I have 2 small girls, my husband works full time and goes to school full time as well. I feel like a single mom sometimes, with our conflicting schedules I have gone up to a week without seeing my hubby. Now I just found out I'm the only fool still working 24 hours a week among my fellow classmates ( the other mothers ). I made the decision to quit my job and take out a loan. The only bad thing is, is that I love the residents and most of my co-workers. The job is hard but I feel kinda selfish quitting. I get along real good with some of the residents and their families. Has anyone else experienced this? I guess thats the nurse in me, I want to help and sometimes I forget to help myself. But it is too hard for me to work, go to school, study, take care of the house and kids. Somethings gotta give. Good luck Cuttie on ur exam. OMG, it feels so good to vent! |

| Posted over 5 years ago I am finishing up my pre-clinical semester and getting prepared for the NET next Spring. I work full time, and even though I am 20 with no kids or husband, it is still hard to manage. My schedules, my personal time, study time, family time, and my poor fiance all get mixed up in my madness. I have no time to be a normal 20 year old - parties, friends, wasting money- and it helps that I matured awhile back so I don't miss it. It helps to remember that THE HARDEST THINGS ARE THE MOST REWARDING ONCE EARNED! We are all strong and we have great futures to work for, so keep at it, even if our rewards will be 12 hour shifts, barely enough time to eat lunch, blood, and angry patient relatives, etc. Haha, we 'll learn to love it, though! :) |

| Posted over 5 years ago Hey angie, I know how you feel, I am working 2 jobs 45-60 hours a week, have 2 boys 14 and 5, my husband works nights, and I too don't seem him other than in passing. I also often feel like a single mom. There are times that the house isn't the neatest place, but my kids are happy and healthy and I am still plugging away at school and work. My husband is not in school, just works and sleeps. I can't afford to not work unfortunately. Good luck. |

| Posted over 5 years ago Hello tiffannij, I was under the understanding that you need to be a Nurse Practioner to become a certified midwife, but I could be wrong. THat is what I was thinking of doing, but am not completely sure yet. |

| Posted over 5 years ago jstrahm said: I was lucky to get a set amount paid each semester by my employer i worked for at the time. You had to sign a contract that said if you passed your exams you are obligated to work at least 1 year for the them if there was a job opening at the time. So me advise is to talk to your employer and see what options they have to offer. At the time as was going for my RN and they paid me a set amount every semester and I only worked part time. good luck. Mieke. |

| Posted over 5 years ago Hi Woldkaren, I've been a cna for about a year, and in my experience the job is best characterized as poop and scoop. I work in an Alzheimers SNF, and when I'm not cleaning/changing incontinent patients, I'm scoping them up out of harms way before they can hurt themselves. I love being there to help these people, but physically its the hardest job I've ever done. |

| Posted over 5 years ago woldkaren: You'll find out soon enough for yourself. It's a hard job but the patients will love you. This will give you some experience and a chance to see if nursing is for you. There's alot of cleaning up after the patients-turning and assisting patients in ambulating and moving from bed to chair. Also helping to feed them. There's always something to be done for them. You will be the eyes and ears for the LPNs and RNs who don't have as much time to spend with them as you do. Check back with us in a month or two and tell us how you're doing. Good luck! |

| Posted over 5 years ago My capping as a LPN is next week, we finish Dec 13th. I will take NCLEX-PN in January. My next goal after passing my NCLEX is to start RN school. I think sometimes I must be crazy to go to school for 2 years at night while working full time and clinicals every weekend; and now I am signing up for another 2 1/2 years of the same insanity. They should give us mental exams, because we must be crazy. LOL . Seriously though it has been incredibly hard and yet I feel it will all be worth it. Many of my classmates went to working part time or quit their jobs early in our program; it was not an option for me (like most I have to work. I find that those of us who have to work and sacrifice to go to school, appreciate the opportunity and work harder). So to all of you working and going to school and wondering what you got yourself into---

| Posted over 5 years ago Hi everyone!! I'm a french nurse, just arrived two months ago in NY. I started the process to get my french diploma certified, then I need to pass the NCLEX-RN. Does anyone knows in which kind of school I could prepare for that exam? I would really prefer a campus site instead of a on line class.

It is a bit expensive about 500.00 dollars but they gurantee you that you will pass your boards or i think they state your money back. this is something that you could check into but i have heard great results. i know someone who took this course and they said it was a great prep course and they did pass their boards.... Let me know if you find out anything and if i hear of how to get more information i will let you... JEssie D |

| Posted over 5 years ago I am 37 and after being out of school for so long I decided to begin with a Medical Assistant program. My goal is to become an RN. I am a mother of 2 and also work during the day. Classes are tough and there is so much to learn in what seems so little time, but I have overcome (so far) the challenges that presented and I remain motivated and determined to pursue my goal. |
