Posted over 4 years ago I haven't been here in a while. I am still where I was a couple of months ago, newly licensed, and jobless. I'm an LVN, and have applied just about everywhere, with hopes of possibly getting hired. It seems that these times are rough. Especially now with the economy taking its toll on more and more families. Why are people not hiring new grads? It seems like everywhere I apply they want at least 1 year experience. Which I totally understand, I'm currently working as an Accounting Clerk and training new people... well, I'd rather not. But how am I supposed to get my experience without a chance? Hmm. I'm going online but that seems to be a bust. Registries don't like new grads. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough. Any advice?

| Posted over 4 years ago Corie, You have to make a full time job of finding a job. Go in person to every hospital clinic and LTC. I would think that where you live jobs would be pletiful. Have you asked for any feedback from the places that you have been to? |

| Posted over 4 years ago Corie, I agree with Ginny. I want to add a few ideas also. Always know something about the institution you apply to. Check them out online or better yet, talk to a nurse who works for them. Since you are a new grad, do not be particular about what area of nursing you want to practice in. Once you do apply, do not just sit back and wait for an answer. Contact the nurse recruter or the HR person every month to let them know you are still interested. You never know when an opening might become available and if they know you are interested because you have been in contact with them, they will contact you. Just do not give up. John L. | Posted almost 4 years ago Now that I'm new grad and licensed job seeking is my full time priority. I really don't wanna move out of So Cal and wish to stay in CA but it's so discouraging when all of the listing seem to require (some only prefer) experience. There definitely was fewer new grad opportunities this year and San Diego's job market with nurses is kinda saturated, so I'm having a tough time. In the mean time I am aquiring my public health nurse certificate and any other marketable extras that may increase my chances. I will be patiend, and persisitant! I know good things take time...and something bound to come my way eventually. -Angela--'--,--{@ |

Hey, thats a great idea getting a public health nurse certification! Man, when I get on NL, I think back to when I got my license and got my job............I already had a job upon getting the license, a scholarship program from a hospital who hired me. I didnt like the hospital, but I got experience and a paycheck.. When I got my license I didn't have a computer or internet ! Geez...........back in them days we sat on the porch and read, lol! Im feeling my age again! Yall keep up spirits...............look perky when you go into a facility and inquire about a job, *******think perky***************think perky*********************. the people interviewing you have no way fo know why your appearance seemed to be depressed", the people you would be interviewing with have no way to figure if your appearance is 'sad' due to depression, personal problems..........or could just be that you had to pay somebody $40 to change a flat tire. Honestly, if I had an issue that might cause me to not be on my game.............I would consider calling and giving a VERY GOOD EXCUSE to reschedule, make it a doosy too. Be careful, if you say im late because my grandmother just died................what if you got caught down the road calling in for 3 or 4 dead grannies! I dont know of anyone for real who did that but there's alot of messed up folk ! We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie |

I am so glad that I live in the small area I do. I will graduate in Dec. and have been working as a CNA for almost 3 years and already have a job promised to me before I graduate. I am so sorry to hear that so many people are having a hard time getting a job. Our hospital is a teaching hospital and even though I am not graduating from there they have a 95% placement rate. Or so they claim. Please be patient because when the time is right the right job will come to you. It's hard to understand with the nursing shortage that hospitals are not interested in hiring new grads. Good Luck and may God bless. Our service to others is the rent we pay while here on earth!! |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I heard somewhere that California is hiring more LVN's now, because of the economy, instead of RN's has anyone seen this happening? Makes me a little nervous. I have decided that I am going to a University and getting my BSN. I figure that people would hire someone with a BSN before they would a ADN. Correct me if I am wrong. |

I am not a California nurse, but I would think that the hiring of LVN's over RN's because of the economy would be not true. Mainly because there are so many things that RN's can do that LVN's are not allowed to do. Maybe it is true in doctors offices and clinics, but i would think in hospitals it would not be. As for the hiring of a BSN over an ADN, well in Ohio if two new grads are up for the same job, the BSN would be hired first, but if the SDN had nursing experience, the experience would win out. | Posted almost 4 years ago Thanks Nurse_John. I wouldn't think LVN's would get hired over RN's. I have heard that LVN's make about the same as RN's in some cases. But I figured that with the economy that LVN's would be cheaper for hospitals to hire. I heard from a friend about this and it made me quite nervous. Hopefully by the time I graduate the economy will be a little better. |

| Posted over 3 years ago I have gotten two jobs offers, in homehealth, but need to have my licenses for a year. The jobs in healthcare are there, but for the newgrad, and if you are a LVN, it sucks. On the bright side of things, they will keep my resume open until next year, they say they will give me a call back. by that time, all my unemployment insurance will be ran out. So until then, I will prepare for RN school. I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California. I've worked as a heathecare provider for almost 10 years.
