| Posted over 4 years ago The hate part: whiny family <mine> who are inconvenienced by my work schdule <they havent figured it out that this is one of the perks>. The love part: seeing a patient feel better, seeing an exhausted family member who was exhausted to tears when your shift started but is able to catch a little nap here and there,,,,,so, in a nutshell, its the patients. |

| Posted over 4 years ago I hate that there is such a shortage of good nurses and yet nursing schools still only take 30 students a year and the schools around here a monopolizing education. I hate that no matter how hard you try there is allways one patient and family who are not going to be happy WITH ANYTING! |

| Posted over 4 years ago I hate that many hospitals make nursing assignments by numbers versus patient acuity levels, which enables some "nurses" to "nurse from the chair" (in a nutshell - coworker LAZINESS) It always seems to be 2 or 3 nurses running like chickens and the rest sitting on their butts laughing and surfing the web. How does that happen? |

| Posted almost 3 years ago The unit manager I see once a year for my annual devaluation. Somehow she's collected a long non-sequitar list of my failings as a nurse, care giver, and human being. If it weren't for all the kind thank yous I get from my patients the other 364 days per year I'd change professions. |

| Posted almost 3 years ago I work in a forensic unit at a state mental health hospital and I hate that when patients become violent (one of the men punched a nurse in the face as hard as he could) that all we are allowed to do is sweetly ask "do you want a pill or injection". |

| Posted almost 3 years ago What I hate the most is the interveiwing process. I can't tell you how many times that my time was wasted. Went for an interveiw once the HR person called off and noone called me. I was very annoyed when I drove the 20 minute to be told, "sorry we forgot to call you." I never rescheduled the interveiw. The waiting game. Why do emploters make you wait 3 or more weeks before they make a hiring decision? I find the whole inteveiwing process frustrating. And I realize how unthoughtful and rude people are. If there is a nursing shortage then why are nurses treated so poorly even before they are hired.

| Posted almost 3 years ago What I hate about nursing is when NURSES EAT THEIR YOUNG. Why is it so difficult for an experienced nurse to NOT want to full-heartedly train a NEW or young nurse??? There is a SHORTAGE OF NURSES and I would think that experienced/seasoned Nurses would JUMP at the chance of getting MORE help with their AGENDAS. Please help the new Nurses and once they learn the Policies/Procedures of your hospital/agency--- they will be on your team to relieve you.....We need more good nurses. There are plenty of Nursing Jobs to fill. Don't be insecure that you will lose your job. WELCOME the Newbies and let them relieve be part of your TEAM. |

| Posted almost 3 years ago I hate the ATTITUDES of seasoned nurses. They complain about everything. I also hate that Doctors sometimes do not RESPECT nurses and the education they have. Nurses need to be treated with respect by other personnel and listened to. Doctors need to try to write legibly and speak clearly. Nurses Need to be given their BREAKS and LUNCHES and not be shortchanged. Sometimes things get so hectic that NURSES skip their break and lunches for the benefit of the patients. They are hurting themselves and the patients if a mistake occurs due to exhaustion. Mandatory overtime should be eliminated. If there is a lack of nurses in your agency---HIRE MORE or call in TEMPS till you get more. STOP DOING MANDATORY OVERTIME. IT IS NOT FAIR TO NURSES OR PATIENTS. |

| Posted almost 3 years ago I totally concur with the above post, we should be treated with respect, however, it's going to take all of us to uphold that respect. Futhermore, in my 40years of nursing I have seeing my share of lack of respect from all sides of the spectrum, we must be realistic and acknowledge that there's always a bad apple in the bunch. Having said that what I can't fathom is the post 7 above mine this person states........ "I hate that they have been training the housekeeping staff to perform venipunctures in my location" This is so wrong in so many levels, totally unprofessional and unacceptable I can't comprehend the reasoning behind this and management allowing such poor patient practice... I can only visualized the patient laying in bed as the housekeeping mops the floors empty their trash cans and states "Oh! Mr. Brown I'll be rightback to draw your blood"... my only hope is that JACHO will get a hint of this before it goes any further. GITANO RN, MSN,CNO/DON

| Posted almost 3 years ago I would say that the thing hate most about nurisng is the fact that older nurses who have so much experience and could helper the new younger nurses to become a valuable part of the nursing staff WON'T they don't want to take the time to pass down tips and share the wealth. I have been dismissed as stupid when I didn't know something that took a seasoned nurse time to aquire. Every nurse out there needs to take the time and remember what it was like when they started out in the profession and be kinder and more gentle and pass down to the new nurses the experience that they have gathered over the years. Our patient can gain alot if everyone works as a team. |

| Posted almost 3 years ago " What frustrates me is that why does an Insulin-Dependent Diabetic,who is already ordered a regulated -portioned diet by his Primary Care Physician,memos sent to the Dietician,thus recieve," heaping servings of mashed potatoes,brown rice with gravy and numerous,real sugar packets on their mealtray ? " Diabetes is already a challenge to monitor for the average person,let alone patients who are,"newly-diagnosed".Trial and error campaigns are ongoing,in relation to, "experimental-meds", awaiting approval from the FDA >nurses need to be ,"constantly,on-guard", in the effort to, " counteract", hypoglycemic episodes, from sliding scales / insulin coverage. Any thoughts on this matter?"

| Posted almost 3 years ago [related to 2 posts above] After the last meal time somewhere during the night shift, some patient will request "seconds" and you have to call security (because dietary has gone home) to get a dinner tray for that patient that is still hungry (of course they are on a renal/diabetic/hyperglycemic/low sodium, etc special) diet. Or the patient that requests to know when breakfast is served and upon hearing, "Can I get 2 breakfasts, please?" |
