I dont believe that LPNs will be phased out! People have been saying that for years! And they are still here! I dont agree with the whole CNA with Medication Aide certificates I think its dangerous and I rather a LPN Nurse rather than a CNA passing Meds after 2 days of training. Another thing is everyone is saying get your RN? i have a daughter who is a LPN i am paying her college to be RN and its so competitive to get into a RN program along with the loans and paying for text books out of pocket. There is nothing wrong with working as a LPN and staying a LPN and not being stressed with RN College loans to pay back. I wish everyone would stop saying there gonna be phased out? there is NO proof of that and it hasn't been done?

I agree LPNs will NOT be phased out because if they are being phased out then by state colleges and private schools wouldnt be allowed to offer LPN majors?

I think in a few years under Obama's healthcare reform bill, there will be alot of LVN jobs, because there will be alot of new RN's in the healthcare profession, and like MAMMADAWN has said, RN's have a heavy workload, hospital technicians can't pass medication.

I think it's geographical as well.  Our hospital still has a small handful of LPN's who have been there for some time.  As they retire, quit...etc, the LPN position is either done away with or changed to an RN slot.

This is to all LVN's, to safe guard our future, do the RN. We need to safeguard our retirement also. I know this LVN who is 64 almost 65, she is desperately trying to get her RN, so she can retire in 5 years. The retirement pay is twice the amount the LVN retirement has to offer.
