If you carry out an order that you feel will harm a patient, you may be held legally liable. We cannot hide behind MD orders any more. You are responsible for what you carry out.


Document your refusal with reasons.

So true Lawyer RN but on the other end of the spectrum if you refuse an order and harm comes to the patient because of it you could still be held liable.  You would have to be more specific about the order being refused and why.   It is always ok to question any order but before you refuse it make sure refusing is appropriate and not harmful to the patient.
