| Posted 9 months ago Can't speak for everywhere, but the med/surg that I work on......just the most often used...not every drug we give antibiotics, specifically....Zosyn, Ancef, Gentamicin, Vancomyacin, and Cipro more rarely bactrim Pain meds,....Vicodin, Percocet, Morphine, Dilaudid, Toradol, occasionally Demeral Nausea meds, Zofran and phenergan Anti-anxiety meds; Ativan (also used for active seizures) more rarely valium and xanax (not as popular as they used to be) Sleep meds; ambien variety of different acid reducers; usually protonix or zantac (IV) occasionally Reglan for increasing GI motility, don't see it as often as I used to. Lax; MOM, dulcolax and stool softeners Benadryl is kind of a catch all drug...used for nausea, itching, sleep, and allergic reactions...I would say at least 75% of our pt's have it ordered for something, steroids, .....decadron and solumedrol anticoags....heparin, fragmin, coumadin, and lovenox and tylenol for mild pain/fever
You'll usually also be giving to most pt's whatever they were taking at home.... the usuals are insulins, glucophage anything for diabetes, also meds for hypertension, glaucoma, seizures and any other chronic medical condition.
My extensive military knowledge is not limited to just being in line at the commissary, I also have extensive military knowledge of the 'Class Six'. |
