This may be a stupid question but don’t you have to have schooling to be a CNA? I am a mother of 5 children ages 18, 15, 13, 10 and 6 and am wanting to get my degree to be a labor/delivery nurse. I have thought about doing CNA work to get a grasp on nursing while I was taking classes. What degree would be best for labor/delivery? And advice on getting started and where to go from here would be great. Thanks a bunch!!

Yes because CNA is a lic. .. MA how ever is not but even to be considered you still need training on the matter . After all you would would not want to give out the wrong meds. right ... MA or Medication Aide classes only take about one and a half mos. , and CNA or Certified Nurse Aide takes about one month on average . As for labor and delivery well you ganna need some college for that , but most community colleges do have courses to help you to obtaining your goal . Or at the very least get you pointed in the right direction . I hope I have at least help you a little ... Tim

hi there, i suggest working as a CNA before nursing school. I work with people who may be book smart, but have no people skills or any knowledge of how to assist people with their personal needs. Besides, as you said, it just gives you a jump start into nursing. Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies. I have 5 children so I think that helps with being able to assist people with their personal needs and I love to be around people and am very social. It has just been so long since I have been in school though--I am 37 - and I am afraid of failing classes--my biggest fear, plus I wasn't the greatest in school. But being an adult now I am more willing to put into it what I have to and most people regret the way they "studied" in high school and wish they would have focused more.
