We are graduating in may 2009. We have 70 students. For our lighting cerimony we would like to do an old fashion look. We want all of our graduates to be wearing the white uniform with the white red cross hat. Any sigestions on where i could buy a mass amount of these?

I graduated this past Jan. and we wore the old nursing hats we ordered them from a store in Orlando.  I will have to ask my classmate the name of the store.  I'm sure that the ship them.

Try this.     www.uniformcorner.com     Then do a search for traditional nurse hat. I think this is what your looking for.

I got good nursing scrubs from this store. You can try them as well. I think they have what you are looking for.

Unsolicited events encumbered the profession that I've always loved. Recently accepted home-based work for http://www.pulseuniform.com to reconnect with the industry.

Samantha,

PLEASE do all RN's a favor and use your spell check.  Or better yet, since you want to be ''old fashion'' pull out that dictionary and look up how to spell what your going to be doing  in May. FYI it the ''olden days'' each school of nursing had a cap that was  specific to their school/university.. Upon graduation you were banded with back ribbon, only RN's were allowed to wear the black band across their hat in recognition of your nursing achievement. LPN/LVN's usuually wore a different color but NEVER a Red Cross.

When I graduated in 1982 from a catholic school of nursing we celebrated with a graduation mass. All the graduates sat on the aisle seat on the innermost row of seats.  The cathedral had three rows of pews.Their families sat next to them on the inside seats. I sat next to my Mom who was also a nurse. We wore white long sleeved dress uniforms and for the very first time we wore our white caps with a black velvet ribbon. My Mom was an LPN and her cap had a wide gray ribbon. Different schools had different styles of caps.  I remember on of the nurses who worked with my mom had a cap that looked like an upside down muffin cup only larger with a ruffle and black ribbon around the part that sat on her hair. She was from Minnesota. I don't remember what school.  I kind of miss wearing the cap but those hair pins used to give me a major headache. The men in my class had a very nice neck tie embroidered with the school logo. It is a misrepresentation to wear an inappropriate had. Please research this carefully to honor your class and all other nurses. I love the  plan for your ceremony. Congratulations and good luck. Welcome to the fold!!!

This is so funny!!! I thought those old hats were long gone and hooray for that!!! They were uncomfortable, wouldn't stay on your head no matter what and my class found out before graduation that they were actually dangerous!!

Let me explain: one of my classmates got the bright idea during clinical rounds to do an experiment on our hats. My school was a hospital based school with their own hat and they were very proud of the symbolism. We had to wear those old things EVERYWHERE! We had a small red velvet stripe around the base of the hat that was removed during graduation to symbolize that we were now real nurses. My classmate and her group decided to send the hats to the lab for testing; this was during the early 90's when the big, bad infections were just becoming known and they wanted to know if it was possible to carry something on those hats. Imagine the school's surprise when the message came back that not only did they find MRSA but also VRE contaminants on the hats! Now, we were required to wear those hats in ALL clinical settings; by that time we had been in the newborn nursery, OR, several critical care units and the cath labs. Wearing those hats, germs and all!!

Needless to say, the school has retired the hat!! Students now dress for the times in easily washable scrubs and shoes that can be thrown in the washing machine. I think they only wear the hat, given to them for that purpose, on graduation day!

Where I work we have to wear caps.  Most of us buy them from Kay's Caps you can find them online @ Kayscaps.com they have been in business since 1947 and ship quick have great prices and a large variety you can even get custom made I think.

Good luck!  I wish you success in finding nurses caps.  I think that is a noble gesture.  I had one and wore it for a few years until it became obsolete.  It really was professional looking but was problem getting tangled in IV lines, etc.

Kay's Caps has an online service where you can order good quality nurse's caps, either stock or for specific schools. Nurse's caps with a red cross on them are exclusive to Red Cross nurses only ( or should be), because it's a trade mark. The people at Kay's were very helpful. Good Luck- some of us aren't ashamed to wear our caps because we earned them.

We received our caps and pins during a Candlelight ceremony with much pomp and were very honored to receive them. Mine is in a clear plastic case from Kaye's Caps. We also received a small ceramic "Nightingale" lamp.
