Does anyone have information about Galen Health Institution? I'm currently going to St. Philips College, waiting to get into the LVN program but I tired of waiting so I found another LVN program that starts new classes every 3 months. Galen is approved with the board of nurse examiners for the state of Texas and has a 93% passing rate but it’s an institute not a college. Should this concern me? I just want to start working and I don’t want to wait another two years to hit the floor. Any advice will help.

Do not let the name institute and college throw you off. LVN progams regardless of the name of the school do not give college credit. Many Vo Tech schools are changing names to include college in the name to make them more appealling to young people. Strange but True.

I too am considering Galen in Cincinnati to get my RN. I am currently a LPN. What cdnurse is saying is true. None of my classes for LPN gave college credit. The Galen site does have the cirriculum listed. I also saw a disclosure that some colleges do not accept the classes as credit. That being said, the goal is to get a license. Galen does offer fast track classes. After you pass the state boards you are a LPN or RN. Not a LPN from Galen or a LPN from Scarlet Oaks.

Just make sure the school is accredited and approved or accepted by the NLN in case you decide to continue with higher education.
