| Posted about 4 years ago Also, if you all wanted, we could share our stories in this forum or in an anonymous forum. If you know someone who is dealing with an eating disorder, you could ask for help on how to deal with it from the many, many qualified healthcare professionals on this site. I'm sure there are nurses here who have experience dealing patients with eating disorders. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Very cool, I was not aware that there was an eating disorder awareness week. I suffered from an eating disorder....it was coupled with some other issues I was having at that time in my life as well. My parents were always very supportive and really helped me through, even though at the time the eating disorder was masked by other stressors in my life. I am small framed anyways and I am thin (I have not yet reached 100lbs...not trying to gloat or be a goodie goodie), but I can remember looking in the mirror and really hating what I looked liked. I still sometimes struggle with not eating(not because I am unhappy, but because I am/was use to that routine)...but I do eat and I do eat healthy. Thank you for posting this Marissa |

| Posted about 4 years ago I am all for this week of eating disorder awareness. I was a college cheerleader, and we weren't allowed to gain more than 2 pounds or we would be kicked off the squad. SO....we would all sit in the sauna, make ourselves throw up or just NOT eat in order to stay thin. I am 5'6" and once weighed 106. Yes, I was so thing. My brother even said something to me about it. I do not do that anymore, but I felt I had no choice if I wanted to be a college cheerleader. It is so sad. I can't tell you how many times I made myself throw up. I am glad I don't have to do that anymore. Being healthy is way MORE important than being skinny OR being a cheerleader in college or HS or whatever. So, just be who you are, eat healthy, and enjoy the way God built you. You are all beautiful! A good man loves other. A better man loves God. A great man loves God and lives well among others! I miss you daddy!

| Posted about 4 years ago I'm just glad to get the word out! I think that too many times families, friends and even doctors see eating disorders as not real. They are real. Very real. And we need everyone in our lives to understand that even if they don't understand what we are going through. My parents were also very supportive but the first doctor I saw was not. After a putting me on a slew of depression medications and saying "Just eat more!" I finally say "Forget this!" and found a new doc....but that was after suffering in silence for 6 years. I also found a great support group that really pulled me through in the end. You're right, Sarah - It's all about eating healthy now. I try to have very balanced meals and I never deny myself something that I'm craving. Thanks for sharing your story! You're awesome! |
