Posted about 4 years ago When i was on the clincal floor during my Ob/Peds rotation, i asked a new mother who had a 14 month at home if she was still breast feeding. My instructor thought I was asking a dumb question, in her mind noone breast feeds children past 12 months. I was courious what other people thought, How old is too Old.. i was on a website that linked this YouTube video. It is a women who breast feeds her 8 year old daughter. What are do you think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PB1WdWjwv14&eurl=http://www.parentdish.com/2009/02/19/breastfeeding-how-long-is-too-... |

Posted about 4 years ago good for her and for her child! I have no problem with it; I breastfed my son for 27 mos. Whatever a woman feels whats right at the time being IS what she should be doing. However, whatever you do, either way mom will be judged!

Posted about 4 years ago Anyone who could breastfeed their 8 year old daughter on you tube...needs MEDICAL ATTENTION!! Even if it wasn't on you tube, they still need help. There is no need for that.

Posted about 4 years ago Throwing my manly 2 cents in here. I'm just thinking if the child is old enough to form memories that last into adulthood...medication will be needed.

Posted about 4 years ago According to the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) breasfeeding is recommended as long as it is mutually desired. After about 15 to 18 months there is no real nutritional value and breastfeeding becomes more of a "bonding" thing between mother and child. Technically, it is called socializing. I have been a lactaion consultant for several years now and when I am asked this question, I explain the AAP recommendations. Then, I encourage my mom's to at least start thinking about weaning after 15 months.

| Posted about 4 years ago It is TOO long when your child can ask for the left or right breast please... A good man loves other. A better man loves God. A great man loves God and lives well among others! I miss you daddy!

Posted about 4 years ago I find it extremely weird that they have names for each one of her breast and that they draw pictures about them.

Posted about 4 years ago I don't think that was a stupid question at all and I'm surprised that your clinical instructor thought so. There are many who continue to breast feed after 12 months. When I had my daughter my nurse told me she still nurses her 18 mo old son when she get's home from work each night. Personally I stopped at 4 months. I wanted to do it longer, but my work and school schedule made it too hard to continue.

Posted about 4 years ago I nursed both of my daughters, and I encourage all women to at least try it. I found it to be very nurturing, and also very bonding. I stopped around 6 mos. However, 8 years old? I find that repulsive. I'm sure there will be severe emotional consequences for this child somewhere down the line. ~ Laugh as much as you breath and love as long as you live ~

Posted about 4 years ago Think there will be a little more than emotional consequences for the child. I believe the mother herself has issues too. I was not breast feed nor was my brother. My mom said she just wasn't interested. I don't think the woman who choose not to breast feed should feel the pressure from others, whether in the medical field or not. Its her decision. My mom was not breast feed either. I wonder if people breast feed more often if they were breast feed?
