Posted over 4 years ago I take Inderal LA daily for prevention. When I start felling like a migraine is coming on, I immediately take 4 Motrin and 1 or 2 Dramamine. It really helps to ward off the pain, but it can make you sleepy.

Posted over 4 years ago Might want to also consider the root of your migraines too..... If you can't find a problem, may want to ask some advice from your doctor to see if further tests need to be done? "a day without freckles is like a night without stars"

Posted over 4 years ago I've had migraines for about 30 years. I've found that Midrin taken at the first sign of headache knocks it out, but I understand that midrin is on back order in some parts of the country. I've also learned to know my body and the following is true for me....If I'm feeling headachy and I don't get enough sleep, or if I eat chicken, chocolate or chedar cheese , it will bring on the full onslaught of the migraine. Also, if I don't have the midran and I take Ibuprofin and naproxen RIGHT AWAY it really helps. The key is not to wait and see if it's a 'regular headache vs a migraine'. I used to wait till the headache got really bad before I would take anything. I've learned to take something at the first sign, and it stops it.

Posted over 4 years ago This may sound strange but I have had migraines for about 20 yrs and I've taken everything from OTC to Rx meds for them until about 5 yrs ago I was having a major problem with them causing several trips to the ER and Dr with less time between them. I started seeing a new family practice doc and he did some lab work and he checked my B-12 level and folate level both were very low so I started B-12 injections and taking folate. My migraines are so much better. I can always tell when it's time for my injection and if I don't take it I will get a migraine. B-12 and Folate Deficiency can cause Confusion, Paranoia, Diarrhea, Dizziness, Fatigue, weakness, Loss of appetite, Rapid heart rate, Shortness of breath, Sore tongue and mouth, Tingling, numbness, and/or burning in the feet, hands, arms, and legs (with B12) And I guess in my case migraines. I'm not saying every one with migraines need B-12 and folate but it worked for me. Nursing it's how I live my life.....

Posted over 4 years ago My sister has had migraines her whole life. She finally found out that a lot of things she eats is what caused them. When she cut out food with MSG's, nitrates, caffiene, and other additives she got migraines a lot less often.

Posted over 4 years ago For the injections you have to get an Rx from an MD but before you start any thing you should see your doctor for lab work and test. Nursing it's how I live my life.....
