| Posted almost 4 years ago the reason we have what we have today in healthcare is because we have a free country. its true there are people who have and will continue to abuse the system. if you think medicare is bad then you have just seen a little of how heathcare will be when its fully run by the politicians. but its the gov sysytem we have and either we fix it and pay for it on the backs of those of us who do work and pay taxes or we risk losing what little freedom we havenow with our own private healthcare. it is not smart to keep getting distracted by who has done what in the past everyone knows the facts so we need to move on and find a solution. i suggested we expand medicare because it is already a GOV OPTION and that is what universal healthcare is. there are huge problems with it and its not anywhere near being an acceptable solution but it is a start. taxing the rich to pay for healthcare is a joke. the rich already give millions to many many hospitals clinics and research. this is why we have what we have now its certainly not because the indigent and poor poeple are donating it!! taxing the upper eschalons of the tax bracket will bankrupt the system quicker than the stimulus package did! if there are no more rich people parting with their money all the funding for the programs we use to care for the poor and indigent will GO AWAY. we get some money from the gov for these programs but its equivalent to what medicare pays the md's and hospitals for their care and its pathetic! all the real money for these programs is donated by the very wealthy. Pres Obama is looking to do this to meet some of his campaign promises and its admirable that he is trying to keep his word but it will backfire and its gonna bite him in the butt later. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago LOL.......................RNUnprofesional.........at least when Bush was president he kept the country safe from more attacks. NoBama is not respected. On MSNBC, check out the segments with foreign stocks........they have no faith in investing with our country...its ludicrous. Unemployment is close to 10%, Nobama worked real hard to try to beat Carters unemployment. What a couple of losers. The french have norespect for him, The Germans have no respect for him and the British have no respect for him. He is too weak to offer any hope to the people in Iran that were protesting and getting beaten and shot video by twitter..........and I saw as many women fighting as men. What kind of President can watch a dictator have women beaten by their guard? A weak one. I hope he gets fired from his job. I contact my senator and congressmen a couple of times a week at the minimum. BY the way, you dont want to live south of the mason dixon line? We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I agree with MAMADAWN. Before I got married, there was no one in my immediate family that worked for the government. Since then, my husband has opened my eyes toward a few things, health care overseas for one, and "obamination", another. I didn't really want to get into this topic, but I agree with MAMADAWN that the government will be taking over our lives. One issue, by one issue, they keep taking a step towards it. He may THINK he is doing everybody a big favor with the universal healthcare but obviously someone who didn't have a lick of experience in the government in the first place isn't going to get very far with this issue, especially from the working class. I think he should set the example and do it himself first, pay for his own health care--oh wait a minute, WE'RE doing that. Silly me!! |

| Posted almost 4 years ago one interesting thing about this discussion that no one has addressed and that is the number 50 million uninsured....so who are these people? where did this number come from? i suspect it consists of 20 million who are here illegally! not one politician has indicated whether or not these people will be excluded from coverage! the rest consists of the people that someone mentioned buy cars and houses rather than insurance and various other groups of unfortunate people that i see everday in the hospital. so what to do abut the 20 million people living and working here illegally? why would one say immigation is a separate matter when clearly it is not! we are being shamboozzeled and people better wake up and smell your own armpit cuz you are gonna be working your butt off to pay those taxes! |

| Posted almost 4 years ago The nurses make close to the doctor's salary in those countries. I have lived and practiced nursing in a country with "socialistic medicine" and it wasn't all that bad. Outdated technology, yes, but then I come to USA back in 1992 and I hear that now they have all the updated equipment too. I will tell you a country that had better medicine that USA and top of the line technology, Kuwait. I don't know if the heathcare professionals will be happy with that income especially in a country with cost of living so high like here. We are already making less than the electricians or A/C repair technicians.......but imagine the government to have to pay you, if it comes to that. Nurses who ever worked for government controlled hospitals know that the benefits are great but not the salary. We will all have to wait and see. Tami934, The government did take over our lives a while back. Nobody make a move here without the government not to know, unless is too petty for them to look into it. There is the illusion of freedom and many of us still like to believe that there is some left somewhere....but ......can you, really, tell your boss what you think of her/him without jeopardizing your job?. The banks control you, credit cards and any government officials can check your credit anytime, even your phone too. Try to deposit more than $10000( without owning a business) and the bank will question you allright. The government can not give us the "freedom" mentioned in the declaration of independence because people will take advantage and get into mischief. This is a country with too many people from all over the world, including a lot of illegals too, and it must be some control in order to have peace and quiet. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago i have heard a few times in these posts about people who buy cars, houses, cell phones instead of insurance. So, in other words, if for various reasons you can't afford insurance, your job doesn't offer it, it is too expensive for you to afford eventhough you are working full time, you shouldn't have a house, a car or a cellphone. Is that what some are saying? For instance and sorry to those of you who have heard this from me before) Blue Cross/ Blue shield quoted me a rate of approx. $3150.00 per month for guaranteed rate coverage. I have a pre-existing condition. I have a cellphone = $49.00/ month. I drive a 1999 Grand Prix= paid for. Every 6 weeks Clairol=10.00. I meet my daughter and her new baby for lunch, once or twice a week at Wendy's or McDonald's and I usually pay=10.00/per visit. Other frivolities, i.e. a mall visit for clothes, say 50.00 a month (I don't shop monthly). I am in Home Health so I buy gas for car=100.00 per month. My husband pays the big bills like mortgage, car insurance etc. My monthly expenditures+ approx. $300.00 per month. I'll even up that to $500.00 a month because I sometimes will buy my grandkids an outfit or 2 during the month. If I stopped doing all these things and put that $500.00 to my insurance premium of 3150.00, I'd still be SOL. I think it's kind of bizarre and a little extreme to say that if you can't afford healthcare, you shouldn't have a house, a cellphone or a TV, don't you?

| Posted almost 4 years ago i heard today that the new international healthcare plan will outlaw your private insurance option should you lose your job after the legisllation is passed! with unemployment kicking in a almost 10% this is crazy! the proposal states that you can keep what you have NOW but if you get fired and lose your healthcare later you cannot go and get private coverage you MUST sign up for the obamacare plan !!is this correct ? i'm stunned that he would be so unbelievably arrogant. this is unconstituitional!! I may be moving to another state that refuses to go along with this socialism. Does anyone else see how dangerous and wrong it is to tell people that they have no right to PRIVATE insurance!! |

| Posted almost 4 years ago The current Congressional proposals for Health Care Reform are MISSING THE MARK! Please call your Rep & Senators to let them know they need to SLOW DOWN and get it right. What is at jeopardy is one of the best health care systems in the world. Chicago-style politics are being used to strong-arm this through before the public realizes the shortfalls. What are issues? It does not reduce health care costs, it does not address current Medicare/-aid waste & fraud, it disallows future enrollment in a private plan, it mandates insurance, it does not address the excess cost due to illegals, it allows taxpayer funding for abortion, it does not address misuse or overuse of the health care system, and it includes excess UNION control. Check out Subtitle D of the House bill. It creates a 'Pipeline to nursing' which alters the career ladder to nursing, and includes training programs that would be jointly administered by the Health Care provides AND LABOR ORGANIZATIONS. It establishes a Health Advisory Board, which 1 of 5 representativds must be a labor UNION representative. (Payback for the SEIU, maybe??). WAKE UP, NURSES -- AND CALL YOUR CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES TODAY!! The ANA sold us out!!! |

Dude, we'd be happy to have you.......my advice check the politicians in your county and city for tax purposes. The last 3 or 4 Mayors of Atlanta have been caught imbezzling money and are in jail now., but our taxes are going up, but not as much as yours! Dang there are fabulous hospitals in Atlanta that are begging for RNs. There's one in Decatur that did have a $10,000 sign on bonus, and some other ads had "will assist with relocating. Emory, Crawford Long Location at midtown.............my homeowners taxes jumped up to $3ooo approx. Sux, but we have nothing to complain about compared to alot of people. Oh, we'll make you enroll in country music appreciation classes, hey, you'll love it. We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie |

| Posted almost 4 years ago For those of you who have been waiting on the universal healthcare........dont hold your breath. They even went bipartisan on the President signed a 5 page letter instructing him that they WILL not rush this. I didnt watch Obamas speech tonight..........big woop, nothing but lies comes out of his mouth. Last nite one of the white house budget for congress told the country that its not really free, its going to cost approx $8000 per year per adult enrolled. That $8000 will come off the back of taxpayers, they said they will target those with earnings over $250k, but will trickle down to the middle income tax bracket. Um..me...........I hope you all are happy............taking from US.............YUP, Im mad as hell about it. How can you live with yourselves? Dont you have pride in yourself? I know its harsh, but for YOU to get what YOU want, your hurting the hardest working class. Obama has brainwashed America...........well, the ones who have weak brains...........that 'the rich are evil". Dont yall know that those evil rich people are right now paying your medicaide and ssi? Yall gonna run down small businesses because they are the next to close down. The stenth of this country is their wealth. They get wealth by being business owners and working hard. Their taxes will be increased up to 55%, no wonder they want to ship their plants to China and India. These companies, like GE, branch in Atlanta, trying to get deal for tax break or move to India. Over 1000 people might be unemployed due to Obamas taxes. Ok, GE is rich, but they employ and provide fabulous health benefits. My husbands company will be next........go ahead you laugh, those that dont like me, and I know who you are. On Monday, he has to announce to the plant that all of the technicians, welders, engineers, everybody in the plant who are the life and blood of this plant...........has to tell them they are layed off, all of them...for 3 monthes...........skeletal admin crew available who are the only ones not layed off. They are doing this because of the tax increases were upped 45% with Obamas regs. Now I dont blame them for going for a country that doesnt require them to support the entire country with welfare at their expense.............well, its at the expense of 2200 men and women who are the employees that will be unemployed on monday. Add that to the 9.5% unemployed the country is already in, then if GE has to shut down the Atlanta operation down due to Obama taxes, possibly it could top it off at 10%.. You will all get your healthcare which wil not be free, it comes from taxpayers anywhere............my husband and myself, enjoy............I hope your care will be all you fantasized it was. Is there a rosetta stone for india? I know there is one for china. Good thing about my husbands company, its japanese, it will still be a viable business, just not in NW GA after Monday. There is a possiblity they wont offer him an overseas position as well. Only God knows. We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie |

That was obvious to the most casual observer in the first place. Add 50 million new beneficiaries to an already bankrupt program and then slip in another layer or two or ten of bureaucracy and try to make us believe that is going to result in savings ??? The concept is as ludicrous as Biden's comment that we need to keep spending because we are bankrupt. |

Sorry to hear the bad news. But, I am afraid it is just the tip of the iceberg. The cost of $8,000 per adult (which will only increase exponentially) will be borne by tax paying adults. So we end up with another Ponzi Scheme like Social Security. When the tax burden gets too much for the "rich" they will simply leave and take the jobs they create with them. As the song goes -- California here we come. Expect an IOU instead of a tax refund check in the near future. |

Well, at least we come from families of farmers who can provide for their family off the land. Ive been digging with a tiller for a couple of weeks, have no idea if Im doing this stuff right. I need to call in my farmer relatives for pointers. Well, my tomatoes and squash arent dead yet but too soon to see if they will grow anything. My cousin Phillp is a hunter and has more dead animals taxidemied than anybody should in one home..........looks like the home of Leatherface in Texas Chainsaw massacre. I was going over to see him to check on a huge cut that had to be sutured after a 'chainsaw incident', and he was really happy...........and I said Phillip how ya doin?, He said GREAT, just got a gray racoon off of hwy 14 1"..............i said "you didnt shoot it? he said "why? the thing was dead but still looked purdy good, after he dries out, im taking him over to bubbas to get stuffed". About that time he opened his trunk, and that racoon stood up on his hind legs, baring fangs at him and was about to clinch him with his claws. He closed down the trunk really fast..............and said "damn, now that was one pissed off racoon!"............I love my cousins! But we're about to be in a depression, maybe we should have less waste. I heard racoon meat is bad for you.........killer for your triglycerides. We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie |

Oh, and another thing.......Bush inherited a recession from Clinton. Thing is........Bush cowboyed up and didnt finger point. I mean Clintons days as President were over and President Bush behaved honorably and did not do the whining like a kid in recess in school who cried that "But Jimmy cheated at dodgeball". Maybe someday Obama will take blame for his own mistakes. I hope everybody knows in the 5 monthes or so that Obama has been in office he has spent more than ALL OF OUR PRESIDENTS COMBINED...........FROM WASHINGTON TO BUSH2. This is unnacepttable. I think its also treasonous. The men who killed thousands on 9 11, used a couple commercial jets to ram into tall buildings. Bush did the wire tapping thing to prevent the plot for a similar crime over LA. We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I heard in the news that Obama's health care reform is going to cost 1 trillion 500 billion dollars and may increase our taxes to 50%. I think if it gets passed that this will destroy the economy. I don't think this is the healthcare reform everyone wants. I believe that healthcare needs to be reformed but big government is probably not the way to do it. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Good points kelly and amy. I know I went off last night.............I had just been told that headquarters in Tokyo ordered a 3 month layoff for all plant workers with the exception of the skeleton crew in admin. He is so worried about his staff, we hosted baby showers and bridal showers for most of the weddings at this plant for the last 4 years, they are like family. We had a new baby born last week with cleft palat <sp?> and a congenital heart defect. This is a big plant but not huge like GM, and they do not have a union. They have been the envy of 7 surrounding counties for ther benefits and just great staff members. Back in January my husband told me I could quit my full time job for a number of years to finish up my BSN...........Ive been flying through agency work since then.............I kind of liked it, choosing when and when not to work, money is fabulous, and I was finishing up school faster than I planned; Originally I planned my grad date to be around Christmas or New Years, but I had just said could be as soon as Halloween. I dont care about school as much now. I just care about my extended family that are about to be layed off on Monday and my husband because I know he's troubled by bearing the news. We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Angienwgeorgia, get my screen name right- I don't mutilate your name why should you mutilate mine? Anyway as many posters on here would say they feel badly for all those plant workers getting laid off at your husband's company but oh well they should have planned for this, saved for health care expenses etc and just go get another job. As they would say it is not our resonsibility to help them, or make sure their kids are covered during the upcoming school year etc. I see you feel badly for them and that's nice but you don't feel badly for all the others down on their luck when their jobs disappear. They should just fix it themselves and by damn don't raise my taxes etc. So I guess all your friends and the poor baby with cleft palate and congenital heart defects will have to use the dreaded Federal Health Insurance of Medicaid to get their care. I do feel badly for them and if they had portable insurance for life that would go from job to job and cover their basic care this would make their lives just a little easier now, but we don't have that and won't unless there is some kind of reform. Now it is hitting close to home you may see the mercy in this approach. KEEP IT STRAIGHT!!!! Bush didn't keep us safe on 911 he failed to keep us safe 3000 plus were dead in the US because of Bush. Get it straight HIS is the failure. He did not inheirit a recession he inheirited a surplus, the largest surplus ever!!!. His watch-- his failures-- his responsibility. He disregarded warnings, he went on vacation and didn't read the memo about Al Queida, he read my pet goat while the country was under attack and was completely scared witless that day. Watch the films of him reading that book, he was way out of his league. He allowed New Orleans to drowned in your beloved south and never made sure it was fixed. Millions of dollars wasted by him and his cronies and nothing to show for it. ThIs is all documented now as part of history. He set up the initial bailout of banks he ran the deficet up with 2 wars. Did you know this country had never gone to war before Bush with out raising taxes to pay for it ?? Never. HE is the one who mortgaged our children's future while Whitewater, KBR , EXXON etc got really really rich. Enough! yeah helath care is going to cost a lot, there will be rationing just like there is now, hard times are here to stay and going to get worse. * years of failed policies led to this . Do you really think an administration caused all this in 6 months... no way. Is Obama biting off more than he can chew? Maybe but change is so needed because for 30 years we have been trying to change healthcare, decrease dependency on fossil fuels, clean up the air and water etc and we get no where. There is no time left.

| Posted almost 4 years ago angienwgeorgia, If my choice was a cellphone or healthcare coverage, I would definitely dump the cellphone. However, you weren't hearing me (reading me). I live in the Phoenix metro area. Phoenix is not like Atlanta or S.F. with their metro systems. ain't no walking to work here. I told you that I am a Home Health nurse. i need a cellphone. the office calls me while I'm on the road. clients call me while I'm on the road. it would be totally unfeasible to try to rendezvous at pay phones a million times during the day. Also, I don't dig with a tiller. I don't think it should be a mandatory choice between good health care for all americans and growing your own food, raising your own hogs and chickens and trapping animals for fur for winter clothes. We all can't be so relaint on the land. Good for you if this is your way, and I am serious about that. I took note of your suggestions, but as I live in Phoenix, you can believe I keep bottled water with me. I don't stop for lunches most of the time, I wait and eat at home, but even if I did, did you follow my math? How much would I have to give up to be able to afford over $3000.00 a month for my health insurance premium? Could you do that? If you could write out a specific budget for me, please do. I'd really be interested. Will be needing insurance when the COBRA runs out. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Maggie: I'm sorry for your situation, but universal healthcare coverage is only going to solve a few people's problems and create MAJOR debt for the whole country. This country is already in a huge amount of debt, and already on the verge of either being owned by China or BANKRUPT. During my adult life, I've had to use COBRA, and also short term medical plans. A few times, I've waited in line at the health department because I had to take plans with HIGH co-pays. Short term medical plans will only cover you for a year or so, but if you break a leg, or need an appendectomy it will suffice. There are also many hospitals that provide treatment for major conditions for FREE, such as ST Jude's Hospital. Government owned health care, will only solve the problems for a very FEW people, and create problems for small business owners and TAXPAYERS. In the long run I absolutely believe it will drive small business into the ground and everthing will be owned by either a major foreign co-operation (such as Japan or China) or the Government. It's time to stop the finger pointing, to past administrations. Obama said if this bill was passed the un-employment rate would go no higher than 8%. It's 10% and still climbing with no end in sight. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Kittyrn, I am not saying that universal healthcare will solve all the problems. Far from it. I'm just saying that something needs to change. I don't want to be one of these people using the hospital ER as my PCP. I want to be able to pay a premium, but it needs to be something reasonable. What I quoted a few posts back is not reasonable. At my last job, I was paying 385.00 a month for myself only and I was Ok with that. All the suggestions you make may be feasible, i.e short term medical plans, etc. But selling our house (yeah, right), giving up a cellphone, giving up a vehicle, shopping only in consignment shops should not be the only other viable option. As i said before, I am currently doing home health nursing in Phoenix, AZ. it was 115 degrees here today. Imagine me walking to and from patient's homes or waiting for a bus ( if there was one) with all my home health paraphernalia. Maybe in some fantasy option, private insurance might refrain from punishing those with pre-existing conditions and let us pay based on the criteria they use for others. I do not want free coverage. I want to pay for it.
