Ever since I have been a little girl i have always had this deathly fear of getting shots/blood tests or anything that involves a sharp! Every time I see a nurse or doctor bring a needle even remotely close to me I tense up something fierce and tears start to come forth from my eyes! I suppose you can call it a phobia! I want to get rid of this fear, espically when I want to become a Massage Thearpist down the line and work overseas... but how can I go about doing it? Any suggestions would be appreciated! HELP!!

I am deathly afraid of the dentist! It stems from my childhood. I had a real bad experience as a child. A horrible dentist tortured me! I will only go to the dentist as a last resort. I'd rather let my teeth fall out first.

I am terrified of needles also. When I was in nursing school, we had to practice giving each other IV's! It was awful. I cried on the day and cried when they were inserting the catheter. Everyone was really nice about it - holding my other hand and things like that. I felt goofy. But ever since then, I have been doing better, especially now that I do it to other people. I guess just being around needles more and more and seeing mostly good reactions from patients has made it better for me. It took awhile to get used to sticking people though. But now I'm fine. Because I was so scared of needles everyone laughed when I said I wanted to be a nurse, obviously it is part of the job description, but my wil of being a nurse overcame the fear of needles. Thank Goodness

I would rather have an IV or go to the dentist than go to the gynecologist.
