I started a "new way of eating" in September 2008. I refuse to call it a diet. I have been successful. As of 3/30/09, I have lost 51.8 pounds. I still have about 20 more pounds to go. My goal is to have that lost by the end on May 2009. Yea me!!

Let's applaud other weight loss success!

I have been a dieter all my life since age 12 going on some pretty crazy fad diests until I reached 40, then I started eating better and lost 10 lbs.  I know it doesn't sound like much but on a 5'1" frame it is a lot.  I really do have to watch what I eat because I am in school, eating late, studying and not going to the gym much anymore.  It's hard because those extra pounds seem to sneak up on you overnight..:-) I don't diet anymore I just eat better now.

This is something I definitely struggle with.  I started using phentermine last year to control my appetite, and it worked for a couple months.  It was long enough to lose some weight, and help me get more motivated to actually set foot in a gym and consciously exercise and watch what I eat.  I am finally down to my weight pre-children (yay!) but have lost what little chest I had... But I don't "diet" either anymore.  My total journey started at 260 pounds, after my second child.  After Adkins (lost 70 pounds, total cholesterol is now 96,) phentermine, and five years after Ella, I'm down to 160-ish, which is about right for me (5'8" and athletic.)  Now to try and keep it.

Thanks for the invite. Were you reading my mind???? This week I planned to start a diet and exercise plan again.

18 years ago I gained over 60 pounds with my first birth. Then came my second birth two years later. At this point I was 100 pounds over weight... Because of my health I  was told by my doctor to have Gastric-bypass.

(My mothr died at 42 from diabetes. She went blind, loss her sight, and was going to be the first pancreatic transplant person, but she died right before her surgery in Ann Arbor Michigan) &  (Diabetes runs high in my family).

Anyways, because of my weight and my diabetes I was told I should have the gastric by-pass, so I did. I lost the 100 pounds and felt great for about 6 years. Then the weight started to come back, I gained back about 40pounds, my diabetes is back, and I now have iron, vitimin, and B12 deficenties and find myself needing to lose at least  30 pounds.  Thats where I feel good and look good.

Since this time I have tried so many programs but nothing seems to work for me.  I guess I just need to buckle down and loss weight the old fashion way with diet and exercise.

I need to loss about 30 pounds. Thats where I look at feel good about myself. So, if anyone wants a diet buddy, I'm the one. I'm ready to be here for support.

I look forward to hearing about other people and thier accomplishments or defiets. Just know, we can do this if we really try.

For me, I suppost I am going through a mid-life meltdown. I also have close family members that have diabetes, cardiac problems and cancers. My weight has always been an issue. I just woke up on day and decided that I am a control-freak in every aspect of my life except for my diet. So, I took control. My portions and what I ate. I no longer eat refined sugars, only natural surgars that occur in friut. No breads, noodles, rice, or any other starchy foods. My diet consists of fresh fruit, fresh veggies, some cooked veggies, soy milk and a little chicken 2 times a week. I added walking for 50 minutes a day after I lost about 35 pounds. No soda, including diet soda. Only water and coffee with soy milk and no sugar. I feel so much better.

Congratulations to everybody. Whether you have reached your goal, in the process of reaching your goal or even just thinking about what goals to set, you deserve to pat yourself on the back. With today's fast paced life style and fast food resturants on every corner, staying healthy seems like a distant accomplishment. No matter how hard that dream seems at any given time always remember that you CAN do it! We must also remember that we can't give into the excuses that seem to come easier than getting our butts moving. If you want something bad enough nothing can stop you! You are in control or at least possess the ability to be in control. I know each and everyone of you can do it!!! Find the little things that help and add to those little things once they became habit. Small things such as brushing your teeth when you have a craving or chewing a piece of gum. I will let you in on my secret which I know doesn't work for everyone. I am NOT NOT NOT a morning person and I have four kids ages 15, 7, 4 and 2, work full time and go to school. I honestly do not have time to workout once the kiddos wake up. I start my day at 5 am Mon. - Fri. so I can have 30 minutes of running before I go home to actually start my day. If I am going to take the time to get up that early when I really don't want to then I am so much better about watching what I eat and how much I eat because I refuse to waste that workout on crap food. Another plus to that early morning workout is that your body is in more of a fat burning mode first thing in the morning. FIBER FIBER FIBER is our friends as long as you don't forget about your other friend WATER! For every one gram of fiber you eat, 7 calories are blocked from being absorbed by your body. So if you get 30 grams of fiber a day that is 210 calories not absorbed! I do have more time on the weekends so I go to the track and I do a bleacher workout. Wonderful for the booty!!! I am happy to say that after four kids I am back into my size 4s. I do need to tone up though and staying in those fours will always take effort on my part, there will always have to be a goal. Trust me ladies if I can do it you can too!!!

Yesterday is gone so remember the good and forget the bad. Tomorrow isn't here yet so don't worry about it. We do have today, so take advantage of your dreams and make your goals a reality (day by day) and always remember to LIVE YOUR LIFE ON PURPOSE!

Take care ladies and have a great Tuesday!

I so need help I just cannot do it alone. I know I have to eat but some how it got out of control. I have to loose at least 80 lbs and I would be happy. I don't want to be a super model just healthy. I need support and encouragement. I need to end my relationship with food. I have so much to live for. I'm innnnn..lol Although its not funny we can have fun with it.

Three years ago I lost 126 pounds - I used a computer program to keep track of every single calorie. Seeing my daily intake on the computer kept me motivated (it can generate a graph). It also tracks other nutrients.

After losing the weight I got careless and stopped tracking. I said "Well, i 'll just be careful." Ha! Doesn't work! I gained back 50 pounds. Now I'm back on it and have lost 19 pounds so far.

The key is you must weigh or measure everything! a Tic-Tac is 1.9 calories!

The good part is no restrictions - if I have beer and pizza I count it. If I go over 1600 calories, I do better the next day.

You can see my "before" photo in my album on my profile.

The program I use is at   http://www.performancediet.com/   I think it costs about $35.

by the way....

I have been on 10,000 other "diets." They didn't work, or I couldn't keep the weight off. This one works, as long as I keep it up every day. Measuring everything is actually kind of fun and challenging!

I have never been overweight in my life until I hit 38.....I was a cheerleader, gymnast, swimmer, tennis player etc.  I didn't believe my mom said it got harder to keep weight off after 30.  But, I have refused to give into the age thing.  I am swimming every day now and playing more tennis with my hubby.  I should be at my goal weight by June of this year!  Yipeee.  I can get out all my little clothes again.

Hello to everyone. As I read through your posts, I see a little of me in each one. I am 5'10 and hit a maximum weight of 321 back in August 2008. I started having some health issues that took away my appetite for a couple of weeks leading to a 10 lb weight loss. This was the motivation I needed to get started with a new eating style to lose weight. Like everyone else, I have tried diets that helped me lose up to 20 lbs only to gain back 30 plus pounds at a time. Since September, I have focused on eating only til I am starting to fill full (instead of until I'm stuffed) and trying to snack on fruit and nuts instead of chips, chocolates, and other junk food. I haven't completely eliminated all the junk, but have gone on to lose another 21 lbs and am still losing. Now I am cooking more at home (from scratch instead of processed foods which have a lot of hidden pounds in them) and working on cutting out soda pop. I used to drink 2 to 3 diet cokes a day. Now I go through a 6-pack over a 2 week period. Hanging around others who are trying to eat right is a key to successful weight loss.

I'm only 5 feet, so a gain of even 5 #'s shows on me. I've had to watch my weight since I was a kid. One thign I will say, I'm not as active as I was when I was younger, and I think that's why as I got older its been harder to lose weight and keep it off.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm an emotional eater. It took me years to finally realize that. I gained 60 #'s when Sept 11th hit. I was so anxious and sad. I went to a weight loss place that involved healthy eating and lost the weight. It took me about 6 months. I think what helped was me writing down all that I ate. They also weighed me 3 times a week, which made me motivated not to deviate from my program .

That was around 3 years ago, and I never regained all the weight back, but I'm currently 10#'s above my lowest weight, and I'm trying to get it off. I will say, I love food, and  refuse to deprive myself constantly. I devaite now and then, but try to watch it more often than not.

I have been very successful with weight watchers. I lost 48 lbs about 3 years ago, but went back to my original bad eating habits. Like out of control and no dicipline, and gained all of it back.  When I lost the weight I felt so good and I was so happy I could fly. Then I took it all for granted and assumed I had it and the weight would never come back. WRONG. It came back quicker than when I lost it. Then came the mood swings and irritability that goes with self unsatisfaction, not to mention the cravings for carbs. Ewww what a visious circle. When I was faithfully following the weight watchers plan I even splurged a little on the weekends but got right back on track again. I don't understand why I can't do it again. I want to but I just do good for a couple of weeks then I'm off to the races again. I need help.

It's a new day ladies and gentlemen!

Don't beat yourself up if you had a bad day yesterday, it's over and done with so learn what you can from it and use it to make today a better day.

Maybe we could start some type of challenge game or something to motivate everyone.

I challenge everyone to drink one extra glass of water today. Good luck!

My prayers are with you! Weight control gets more difficult as we age, I am in the same boat.

The weight was not gained overnight, and it will not go away overnight. See your doctor, have labs checked ie BG and thyroid function. Consult a dietician and come up with a plan that you can stay with. You are right, you can't eat nothing.  Results will not come overnight, but look at the long term. You will be healthier.

When the goal is simply to lose the weight, you set yourself up to fail. It is easy to get discouraged and say the hell with it. If your goal is to be healthy, and follow a plan that is healthy, then the weight loss will come. I know that I will never be 185 pounds again, in fact it would be unhealthy for me to get to that point. But at 200 pounds, I can feel good and be very healthy.

RNwannaB is right ... don't beat yourself up. Every day is a new challenge.

God bless and take care!

peace

I recently restarted weight watchers and I have to say that it is way easier than I thought it would be. I lost 47 lbs about a year ago and hadn't put any of it back on but my goal is to be down by 100 lbs by July of 2010. I have alot of weight to lose due to a back injury and steroids. Here goes nothing.

I lost the most weight I have ever lost in my life in 2004. My daughter (at the time was 25) had multiple cva's and I plunged into a workaholic nursemamma! She had no insuarance so I was it. She also needed to see a neurologist after a 2 week hospital stay which cost $1000.00 before he would even accept her as a patient. I rean constantly and would forget to eat. I went from a size 18 to a size 8! Dropping from 203 to 138. She is o.k now so poor me! I have had alltogether since being her servant 5 major surgeries cause I didnt take care of myself and I have gained back about 75# on the advise of my Doc to DO NOTHING! This is what nothing will get you! I dont eat much very rarely eat one whole meal which my dietician has chastized me for because my body is turning into fat for not eating and my bones are turning to chaulk!

Dont do as I say but do as I know which is protein, lowfat, low carbs, watch your portion size. Yo would be surprised at how many crackers you can eat if watching portions versues how much lettuce or bean sprouts you can munch on. Its NOT CALLES A DIET! Its called a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE! Oh and Dont forget to incorprate exercise. Pilates are the greatest low impact exercise and walking is awesome too!
