Posted about 4 years ago I'm currently in a CNA course. The instructor told us that we could begin working after the first week of class. Do you all know anything about that? It's kind of good considering we were also told we couldn't get certified until July. Anyway, I've been looking at local jobs and the shifts I've seen are 7:00 am - 3:30 p.m., 7:00 am - 7:00 pm, and 7:00 pm - 7:00 am. I'm trying to decide what shift I'd want to work. A little background: I'm married with a 6 year old son and I plan to go to college full time starting in the fall. The 7:00-3:30 shift works perfectly with my son's school schedule, but it would kind of clash with class times. I suppose I could only work part time. The 7am-7pm just doesn't look good to me. I'd never see my son and I couldn't go to class. Of course it would only be 3 days. The 7pm-7am looks good in theory, but I'm worried about 3rd shift. It would only be 3 nights a week, but would I become nocturnal all week? I've also heard that shift is mostly paperwork and I don't mind that one bit. So I guess I'm just looking for your opinions about each shift and the benefits/drawbacks of each. I'm leaning toward a 12 hr shift simply for the fact that it's only 3 days a week. I don't know though. Christine |

| Posted about 4 years ago I don't know about the working after the first week of class but I do know about working 3rd shift. I prefer working 3 12 hour shifts aweek and I sleep when my kids are at school so when they get home in the afternoon we can spend time together. I tried working 3rd shift when I was in school but it didn't work very well (work all night then class all day) I had no time to sleep. So I went to 1st shift during school. Now as for mostly paperwork on 3rd shift that goes along with the patients sleep all night. Speaking for myself a RN and the CNAs I work with we run our legs off all night. Some nights we don't get to finish our charting until 1st shift comes in. I know alot of the places around here will work around your classes if you work 1st shift. Everyone is different so what works for one person may not work for another. Best of Luck. Marsha Nursing it's how I live my life..... |
