This one will be long. I work in geriatrics. My med pass takes 6 hours of my 8 hour shift. I have alot of interruptions and needy people. Staff who bring in their children. I've raised this up to the DON. She was raising up to the administrator who is 26 years old. Yess. Nothing come of it. I had to call a nurse today to come back and sign the narcotics sheet. She does this all the time. T he place has more paperwork than any place I've worked in. The HIM director always writes us up for forgetting paperwork. I just came back from vacation and I just didn't want to be there. The social worker is the pitts. We get a new resident in 5 minutes with no report from the hospital. The DON won't help us. I've decided after 19 months being a nurse I'm going back to waiting tables. I don't like the system. I just don't believe in it. It's a joke.

sugargirl66: Find another job-fast! Every place is not like this one. Keep trying until you find a job you like. There are all kinds of nursing jobs. Don't give up on nursing. I've worked in places like this before too. and you can get burnt out quick. Find a job where you are appreciated, where what you do matters. You worked hard to get thru nursing school-don't throw in the towel so soon. I've been a nurse for 27 years and believe me I've had some awful jobs. Nursing can be very rewarding. Keep your chin up and start looking for something else right away. After this place, anywhere else has to be better!

Thanks for the encouragement. Charlita the ADON brings in her dog everyday and makes pictures on the computer. I said to one of my friends something aint right. forgive the slang. They say she hasn't been an R.N. long enough. Thats bull. I have applied and no one has really answered or its not what i'm looking for. It's also near the holidays and usually alot openings happen after the new year. Thanks again. CC

sugargirl, It sounds as if you work in a nursing home. I contend that they are all the same. Only the name changes. I do not know what the solution is. Do not give up on nursing. Just find something else in nursing to do. Check out the jails, schools, and assisted living. And, go back for your RN. You will have far more options. It sounds as if you are a caring person. We need you.

have we worked at the same job? just kidding, i feel your pain, really i do! don't give up on nursing, its just the job, keep your head up and keep looking for a new job. if you play your cards right, be patient, you could almost name your price (depends on your location), good luck!
