Treating Mentally Ill Clients in a Medical Setting. What are the skills that medical nurses require?

Posted about 4 years ago Clients with mental health issues can be difficult to treat in medical settings, mainly due to their oftentimes odd and at times erratic behaviors. I have also noticed, in some cases, an increased level of fear (for both clients' and medical professionals) often accompanied by lack of knowledge, skills and support.. Does anyone have any experiences to share about how you or your facility has addressed issues related to dealing with the mentally/medically ill client? Or suggestions regarding what might be most beneficial to provide more compassionate, effective medical care for these clients, while providing a level of comfort and safety for both the client and medical professional. |
