Posted about 4 years ago I like scrubs too but I really like the the vintage nurse uniforms. I am not in the nursing field yet but I would love to wear that to work instead of scrubs. They look so classic and beautiful, even though I know they were probably hard to keep clean. Those uniforms put nurses in a class all there own, now nurses look like everyone else in the hospital. And I love the nurse hats and can't wait to wear one! |

| Posted about 4 years ago I see your point there, but I prefer the scrubs today for many practical reasons. Unsolicited events encumbered the profession that I've always loved. Recently accepted home-based work for http://www.pulseuniform.com to reconnect with the industry. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Yeah, not so much. I prefer to think that my uniform is not one of the primary reasons I am respected. |

Love the old uniforms! I actually wore white scrub dresses as pictured throughout the nursing program. I got so many compliments on how professional I looked! Go for it!! |

| Posted almost 4 years ago The only problem I have with scrubs is that everyone wears them, and patient's can't tell the difference between the Nurses, and Nurses assistants. At the hospital where I work, All nurses wear navy blue. The nursing assistants wear ceil blue. I personally am glad I don't have to wear starched dresses now, because I can't stand the hot support hose. Joyce Harrell, RN, OCN

| Posted almost 4 years ago I wore the tradition white when I was a nurse in the mid to late '80's. They were a pain to keep claen, but some companies got very creative and came out with some really cute styles. I had a jumpsuit that was so cute. I also had a White Swan dress that was crisp and professional looking. Scrubs are more comfortable, I do have to say. I think practicality took over the need for a professional look. Claire Kruszka |

| Posted almost 4 years ago In Ireland we still mainly wear Tunic tops and pants unless working in an area deems to be an infection control risk where the hospital supplies and launders scrubs such as ED, CCU, ICU, theatres, maternity. We have a lot stricter uniform policy over there and have a definate colour scheme and scrubs are not seen as acceptable workwear unless you have had an explosion (code brown) or work in one of the above areas. In Austraila it seems to be similar (I have lived here for a year now) NSW has a state uniform for the public health service and lots of women wear skirts or knee length shorts in the summer!! Is great!! In the hospital where i am now they do not have a uniform but msot people wear collared t shirts and a skirt or pants. there is just a general guideline on neat and tidy dress. But hell no to the hats. It means hair in a bun or knor and hairgrips everyday no thank you! |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Vintage uniforms? I guess I'm vintage because I think of the nurses in the 40's and 50's. I always wanted one of the dark blue capes with red lining with RN on the neck where it clamped. And, I wanted a cap with a BLACK stripe. Well, I finally got my black stripe, I wore my hat once, and that was our pinning ceremony. I'm not sure who or/and what designed some of those RN caps, they had to have been on some kind of drugs. I did locate a cape once, but was not in good condition. I tried to find one of the really vintage white nurse uniform with the long sleeves and length past your knees, and some old lace up white nurse shoes. I just want to dress up and come to work and look at everyone's reaction. It would be a hoot since I work at a large VA medical center. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago there is a TV show in the UK called The Royal is set in the 60s in a hospital on the coast. Shown on ITV if you could find that you would have a good idea of vintage nurses uniforms UK and Irish style our uniforms are blue!! The black stripe on the cap was to signify mourning for Florence Nightengale i have been told. There is/was a companion show to The Royal called The Royal Today which oddly enough is set in the same hospital in the present day is funny to see how similar yet different things are when compared. Hope you find the things you are looking for and have a good giggle at rocking up to work all decked out!! |
