Posted over 5 years ago A little background about myself first....I'm 35yrs, changed careers, in 2006 graduated from a Medical Assistiant program. Currently working in an OB/GYN office. I really love the medical field and am glad of the change. Did some research on what I want to do which is to become a CRNA. The question: realisticly how long will it take for me to complete nursing school, get my RN lisence, then obtain my BSN and finish the CRNA program being a single mother with 2 children. Or am I setting my self up for failure and/or will I be over the age of 50 before I actually be able to really get my hands dirty as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist ? Please I need a little advise or maybe a dose of reality! |

| Posted over 5 years ago I have a friend of mine whose husband is trying to get into a CRNA school. I am not trying to discourage you, but around here Southeastern USA the schools are super competetive. You have to work 1 to 2 years in a critical care setting as a RN and make super high on the MCATs to even be looked at for admittance. I think in some places they require a MSN not BSN fro admittnace as well. Try your RN first. That alone will open so many more doors for you. I started out as an LPN/LVN and was so suprised at the opportunities that came avaiable after finishing my RN! Good Luck! |

| Posted over 5 years ago I am looking into that specific area myself. The schools are extremly tough to get into. They take the people with the highest scores only. I think there is limited space for the select few that do get accepted. To get your RN degree it would take only 2 years for your ADN and you could start working on trying to get your two years of critical care. While in CC you could go back to school for the other two years and get your BSN. Then, I think, the CRNA takes a year and a half or something to complete. It sounds hard and tiring, but so was going to nursing school in the first place. Single mom with son in preschool-then kindergarten. You have to decide if that is what you want to do and then do it. Hardwork and patience always pays off in the end. |

| Posted over 5 years ago Go for it!!! You can go to a university to get your BSN without having to have an ADN first. You may decide to on a different specialy after your get your BSN. i have a freind who got her ANP at 50, was an RN prior. She is very glad she did it, single mom of 2. |
