Hello all! Can anyone tell me the licensure requirements for civilian nurses to work on base at a military hospital? Is a normal state license sufficient or is there a special license for working on base? I am a new grad (BSN) and my husband and I are awaiting orders to be restationed to Camp Pendleton, CA. I've tried contacting the HR person at the base hospital there, but received no response. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

Around my area, alot of the jobs at the Naval hospital are contract positions, not civil service.

It's also worth nothing that spouses seeking a job at most military hospitals are usually granted a higher priority than most GS or contract nurses. You should check into that when you are changing duty stations.

Hi!! my name is Christine... and I currently on work at Camp Pendleton over in the Postpartum Unit. This hospital hires contract and GS nurses. As far as, the contracting agencies and GS prioritizing military spouses, is untrue. Most of the GS and contract nurses i work with are not dependents of active duty members. Personally, i think they pay pretty good too... all you have to do is look up spectrum healthcare (agency i work for) and they can definitely help you getting a job. the only thing a nurse that arent a spouse of an active duty member is getting the car registered on base (all you need is your drivers license, insurance, tags and license and everything up to date).. hope i came in handy if theres anything else just give me a holler!! :)

One problem I have encountered here in San Antonio (Wilford Hall & BAMC) is that one year of related experience is required, regardless if it is Civil Service or Contract. I was told by this is a DOD requirement.
