Posted about 4 years ago Dear friends: I have completed all my prerequisites. I am taking some time off from accelerated nursing school until January. I want to use this time wisely. I have all the skills to be a CNA;I am not certified. I would like to be able to work in a hospital as a CNA/CMA/LPN, but in south Jersey (Cherry Hil area) the additional training costs anywhere from $2000. at the community colleges to $12,000. at "career training institutes." The Red Cross does not offer CNA training in New Jersey. Are there any other alternatives, like working at a hospital until I have time to earn enough money to pay for the CMA or LPN training? Thanks. Tricia |

| Posted about 4 years ago Yes, you can work in a hospital and earn some money to go to school. There are tons of different jobs. Try asking if the hospital will pay for your CNA class if you work for them. Also try some doctors offices. They may need help in the front office. I know that when I got my CNA, it only took about 6 weeks and was very affordable. I am suprised that the community college does not offer this program for an affordable rate. It is probablly where you live. I will be praying for you in the meantime. Just hang in there. I am here for you anytime! A good man loves other. A better man loves God. A great man loves God and lives well among others! I miss you daddy!

| Posted about 4 years ago I don't know how it is in NewJersey, but in California, you need to have some experience as a CNA to work in a hospital, even if you volunteer, you are not guaranteed to work as a hospital technician, or even as a LVN, or RN. I went to a job interview as a LVN Monday, and there was a RN who volunteered to work as a student nurse helper, he applied as a RN, and he still wasn't hired. It is hard times now, especially with the economy being the way it is. I will pray for you too. I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California. I've worked as a heathecare provider for almost 10 years. I am curently in school to pursue my MSN in nursing, and wants to work as a pediactric nurse, in public health. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Hi - I'm in New Jersey, and retired from the Dept of health and Senior Services, where I was Chief of the Program that certifies CNA's. In NJ, CNA's work mostly in long term care. In assisted Living you must be a CNA or CMA. Hospitals have their own systems - a hospital MAY require you to hold a CNA or CMA, but may not - they may just hire you and train you themselves. They may call you a PCA or Patient Care Associate... these are not State certified. If a nursing hoime hires you they generally have their own CNA training programs, approved and monitored by the State. You may be trained by them, at no cost, and will complete the course within four months of hire. |
