ER Psych Room

Posted about 4 years ago I know any type of psychological problem is still, and will probablly always, get a bad rap. In the ER where I worked, there was a special room that all psychos were put in. That is how many of the doctors and some nurses talked about them. I feel they have JUST as much medical need than do others with physical disorders. It made me so sad. The social worker said she felt the same way. Not only do they need meds, but they also need counseling and comforting. NOT for people to make fun of them. It just makes me so mad. My family has a history of bipolar, and unless you have a mental disorder, you shouldn't judge. Just treat them like people. WE owe them that much if we call ourselves good nurses who really care. |

| Posted about 4 years ago I feel the same way I totally agree with you and having the "psych" type patients in a specific room unfairly labels them for all the staff before the staff even get to meet them. Isn't that really a violation of thier privacy to let everyone on the unit in on why this particular patiant is there? I've had nurses in report build a patiant up to be a real pain in the butt only to find out through assessment they are nothing at all like described in report. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Whoever started this thread, kudos..........your right. I remember in grade school............6th and 7th grade. This is a sicko way of putting these kids grouped like this: We were put in 'A' group...........'B' broup..................'C[' group............'D' group..........E group..............LOL. has anybody ever heard of this? Ok those in A group made straight 'A's...........those with a slightly lower testing group........like 80-90...etc,that was B group; yall know. Now the kids who would be in E group.........they were treated like crap, especially the girls; I remember the boys in E group were good in sports, so since they were good in sports they were considered cool..........who cared if they were idiots? Does anybody remember dodgeball? And the PE teachers picking 2 popular kids and then have them pick their teammates? Evil practive. Those 'special ' rooms in the ER remind me of that. I was always one of the kids who was in A or B group............it seems in the spring, I would get demoted to B group, lol. My mom treated me like I had robbed a bank or got caught stealing somebody's lunch money. In the fall and winter I sailed all through A group. Whatever happend to dodgeball? Those balls were hard and those kids threw like bullets. I remember having a couple of nosebleeds, and my mom never did give a rats ass............her response was 'you should have ducked'. When my kids were old enough for school, I distinctly went to their teachers and ased if they played dodgeball <I wasnt worried about Patrick, just Sarah...........he was one of those kids who made trilliant grades, was scrawny but stilled did well in sports, he was quick on his feet. I didnt want Sarah having to have a complex about what I went through, yup............I was one of kids who was one of the last picked kids, lol. Can I sue my grade school for abuse back in the 60's? Its kind of funny, I was at a school funtion for my neice..................I saw 2 of my old classmates from the 6th grade, they both looked like crap. HE had a massive beergut............carpenters crack and looked like he hadnt shaved in 3 or 4 days; SHE looked like she'd been riden hard .................and both of them had probably 12 teeth between them <they were 'a couple'>. I didnt recognize either of them, lol. They recognized me and said ..............'wow, you havent changed since graduation'. Its amazing what good hygiene and using your toothbrush daily since I had teeth. 'Dodgeball' is one of my favorite comedy's, lol. I know, sorry guys............this has really not much to do with those little rooms in the ER. One thing maybe is I was trying to remember how labeling kids can be hurtful.
