I really need to get the heart rate increasing type exercise into my routine (if you can call it that).  My problem is I am storing my bike in NE while I am living in SE.  If I had it, I would have no place to store it here, not to mention being afraid to ride it in this area.  Walking is the same issue.  I have done some walking nonetheless, but have sometimes felt it was at my own risk.

My job involves plenty of running around, lifting and exertion, but not the kind we are supposed to have to get our heart rate up.  I guess I need to find a walking friend and go to a park to walk.  Still, the problem remains...how to start this weekend?

I agree that there is strength in numbers.  So I could also use the encouragement and accountability.

Yeah I'm all for walking, but you gotta be safe about it... Walk or bike in the park like you said, or maybe a gym membership? You can walk or bike there... or treadmill at home although that would need some storage area as well. Some people walk at the highschool track, and some at the mall early in the morning... If you're out of actual walking options, there's always the excercise videos... a series by George Foreman called "Walk it off with George"  We actually have 2 of them and they really are a work out  when you're out of options.  Hope that is of some help... Good luck!

Ok good inspiration here..     Running around in a frenzy on the clock in the hospital...........wont get your heart rate up for a scheduled time to focus on your heart rate.   You need to get your heart rate up by at least 20 beats per minute for 20 min to half an hour..............doing that 3 times a week does wonders.   Whether you do biking outside, a recumbant bike inside, go walking..............or any excercise that will get you to this goal.   Good luck.    I started at New Years..........cutting back on carbanated drinks, drinking more water.................and I figure by eating healthy................no snacks after 9pm................this could help.  I've managed to lose 20 pounds since Jan 1.   I wish it was more but beggars cant be choosers.  Being active on the job playing 'slave' whle on the clock sure cant hurt...........but you need to clock and not let your heart rate get down.  Remember 20 min each session.   I use to do it goin up 2 flights of stairs............and Id reach and step on every other step.......that night I did that, my ass would be so sore!   I had to get in the jacuzzi for therapy, lol.   But I'm tellin ya, doin 2 flights of stairs steping over every other one really works on the tush and legs!   Good luck and hope this helps anybody.

We only have one heart, take care of it!

I do alot more walking then biking (due to a knee injury I have).  I enjoy walking,  running (which sometimes isn't good for my knee either), tennis, and soccer.  I do alot of aerobics as well.

You know, looking back on how I spend my days, I realized that the majority of the time, I am walking up and down halls like HerbalNurse mentioned.  By the end of they day, my feet hurt so bad that I am by no means motivated to go out and take a walk, lol!  I have, however, lost about 15 pounds over the last month and a half from the insane pace of my job!  When it comes time for charting, I love the opportunity to just SIT DOWN!

Thank you!  I've certainly not been trying, thats for sure.  I wonder how successful I might be if I actually put a little effort into it.  For someone like me, every little pound is a great accomplishment, as it is difficult to lose weight normally (until now, that it).  I thought about getting the Lap-Band but one of my instructors got it and it slipped and pinched off the cardiac sphincter!!!  She was unable to eat anything at all for a while!  She almost died before they realized what it was and deflated and removed it.  I suppose there are disadvantages to everything out there which leaves the natural way as the safest.  Call me chicken but I'd rather be fat than dead!  As long as my BP is good, my BS is good, and my Cholesterol remains low, I'm content (although, losing weight definetly has it perks...  Like prettier clothes!!!)

I walked on the beach yesterday for 30 minutes, then later in the afternoon I got in the indoor pool and did some water aerobics.  Today I walked/part jogged on the beach for 45 min!  Yeah!

I absolutly LOVE turbo jam, when I get the motivation to actually do it that is. When I first started I did it every other day for about a month, Didn't lose much weight because I put it on in muscle, but my stomach got much firmer and my husband sure noticed a difference. I stopped when I started working lots of OT and just havent been able to get back on the ball since. I really want to because aparantly your stomach doesnt stay flat. LOL and I am up about ten pounds. If I could just lose that 20 lbs I put on with my daughter, Who is four yrs old lol I would be happy. We need motivation!!

I am continuing to walk. I have lost 30 pounds so far. I am also eating a low glycemic diet. I teach it also. So I feel like I am using my nursing in a wellness/prevention mode. I am talking to the YMCA about partnering with them to teach classes there. Since exercise is a component of the program, I think it would be a good fit.

I would also like to learn and become certified to teach Zumba... Have any of you ever done that???
