Posted about 4 years ago This is to let everyone out there that is over 30 that you can do it. I just found out that I have been accepted into the accelerated nursing program at our local college. That meant sitting in a room with high school kids at the age of 54 taking my SAT's going to night school 4 nights a week for 3 hours and working two jobs but I got in and I want to thank my lovely and patient wife and my four outspoken kids you kept me in line and egged me on, and I also wnat to thank what ever it is a higher power, God for guiding me in this direction and giving me the determination to go after it. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Good for you!! You will never regret this big step. I started nursing school at age 47, newly divorced, and with 9 kids still at home. I eventually had to drop out in semester 3, had to work more to pay the bills. But I had my LPN so that was good. Hey, if I can do it, so can you. Best of luck and God Bless. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Congrats! The more power to you! I started my masters in nursing at 44 and I should be done next year in March 2010. It just shows how we can balance children, work, school, well, pretty much anything. Best regards!

| Posted almost 4 years ago I am 49 and just signed up. I'm hoping by the time I'm 54 I'll have it all done. I'm so anxious and a bit scared, but I'm finding that there are more people out there who finally made the decision for nursing. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Good Job!!! Congrats!!! I have just finished my pre-reqs, took me 3 years to do it. I work full-time, went to classes at night, have 6 kids, and had to take a total of 3 classes per semester to keep my kids parent plus loans in deferment. I am also looking at an accelerated program. My kids were wonderful throughout this process. Goodluck to you!! Oh, and I am 55 years old!!! |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I have been a nurse for 32 years, first LPN and then RN. At 53 I am working on my BSN. Sometimes I feel like I will be retirement age before I finish because of pre-req classes and things like Art etc! But I fully intend to finish even if I do retire the day after I graduate |

| Posted over 3 years ago I started back to college from scratch (no pre-reqs completed) in Fall of 2006. Applied to the local community college ADN program and they told me it would be a 3-5 year wait. I did not think at 43 I was smart enough to apply to the BSN program at the university, but thankfully my husband did. I got in on the first try,and will be starting my 2nd clinical rotation this fall. I wish I would have had a previous bachelors degree so I could have applied to the accelerated program like you did. At our age it would be so great to be done in half the time. You can do it, it will be overwhelming some days but just realize it is a very small slice of your entire lifespan you are giving up, so worth it in the end. Just be sure to apologize to your family right now as a disclaimer for being grouchy and tired later...lol! Good Luck! |
