Posted over 5 years ago I am starting LPN school next month and little to my surprise I cannot we do not qualify for financial aide AND none of the student loan companies loan money to you if you are going to a vocational school. Please, if anyone has any ideas or knows of somewhere I can get some help with finances, let me know. The bad part about this is that you don't get to speak to a financial aide person until after you have completed weeks of prereq's so I was not aware of this. I am thinking of not going because I cant put this on my husband. Times are hard for us now and this is just not fair to him. PLEASE HELP!!!!! |

| Posted over 5 years ago I really feel that your husband should be part of this. Since after you graduate and start to work, he will be part of the beneficiary from your income. Last year I was accepted into the same program, and almost quit but my Wife took a small loan from the local lending institution. And now I will be graduating in 33 days. Try to look around in your community small personal loans and try it out. It is worthy to try than Not. Good luck! |

| Posted over 5 years ago Have you talked to the financial aid officer at the vocational school? When I went to LPN school, the financial aid counselor was instrumental in finding me loans (I didn't qualify for grants or other financial aid). Jenn |

| Posted over 5 years ago jifferte said: Yes and unfortunately they do not particapate with student loans. All of the loan companies I have called do not loan money for that school. It is strictly all federal aide or pay yourself. Which I absolutely do not understand. BUT, they don't tell you this until after you complete your pharm and all the other stuff. They will not let you speak to a fianancial aide officer until after you have completed everything to get in the class. She basically told me to go to myrichuncle.com and they will not loan money for that school. UGGGGH. If I don't find an answer this week I am withdrawing. I can't put anymore on our family. It just kills me though that I have worked HARD all my life and can get nothing back. And there is NO OTHER school in my area that offers LPN. I am thinking of holding off until things pick up or I an find and answer. |

| Posted over 5 years ago try a federal pell grant (fafsa.gov) and if all else fails try going to a local credit union in your area or even your current bank and see if they provide loans for educational advancment. You may even have to just apply for a normal loan at your bank. There is a student loan with low interest that isn't very hard to get and it's called the SALLIE MAE student loan. Go to the websites and check around. You are bound to find something that'll help you out. Even a little will be better than nothing. Good luck!!! Stay motivated. |

| Posted over 5 years ago And another opinion. Sry if this seems odd but I think it's really shaddy of them not to inform you of this self pay agreement untill after you have completed a certain course. Is this instition certified to teach? You may need to make sure they are legit if they are scamming students like that. I would try applying somewhere that would recieve student aide in a more acceptable manner. |

But I have to go through all the testing crap all over again. UGGGGH!!!! I am also changing to an associates degree in surg tech. But, this school works with people who have lives and jobs and I really think it's a better fit for me. Yes they are shady! :O) |

| Posted over 5 years ago Aw awesome. I'm glad you caught it in time. Alot of instititions say they have credible degree programs but they are'nt actually certified to teach. I would have given you the website but it flew from my mind. Be careful and look for those pell grants...and even ask your job if they do college and continuing ed reimbursement. I was working for a hospital and they offered to pay full tuition till graduation and I could pay back when I agreed to work with them full time as an RN. If you quit or don't finish school you have to pay them back as soon as you change plans but it is a good way to get extra funds for school. Well congrats and good luck with everything. |
