It's a temporary "soul-snatching".  You'll get it back in-between semesters.

Congratulations!! I was accepted into the Fall 09 program too and I've heard many horror stories about life during nursing school.  I'm sure everything will be just fine and you'll do great.  Good luck!

Nursing school is very time consuming, and it takes alot out of you!! Be ready to go back and study thourghly and put your best foot forward. My best piece of advice is don't let the instructors intimidate you, they will try. They are trying to weed out those who are not cut out for nursing! Good Luck!!

I just finished my first year in the nursing program and am anxiously waiting for the final grades. One of the main things that I can say is stay on top of things, you cannot memorize or cram for the tests, asks lots of questions and the others are right, don't let the teachers intimidate you, you made it in and that is not an easy feat, so hang in there!

My family was my biggest support this past year, they understood I would have little time for family things and they encouraged me to do my best, even my better half cooked 90% of the meals. Study, study, study

Everyday no matter what, put time to the side to study what has been gone over. If you do that, by the time it comes to test time over the subject matter, you will know it backward and forward. It also helps to have a study group that you can drill questions to and they can for you as well. When you have an extensive study guide to do, it helps for many to take a section and do it. That way no one is doing all of it. Good luck!

P.S. Just got the grades back, I made it with a B. I am onto the second year!!!! YAHOOOO!!!!!

I was just accepted into nursing school too. I start in Aug. I'm excited and a little scared. I know it's going to be a lot of hard work but I also know it will be well worth it. I'm going for LPN and I know that when I'm done I will want to get my RN. I'm in this for the long hall. I'm determined to be an RN eventually.

Congratulations to all of you who made it into nursing school and to those who will start their semester very soon.

I just graduated a couple weeks ago and got pinned! It was an amazing feeling. You'll need a lot of support from family and friends. I will be honest and say that I had no life while I was in school. I was very stressed and I think my mom wanted to kick me out of the house many times. lol  There are many emotions. When you find out you passed an exam..................it's like you won the lottery!

You'll get your life back briefly on breaks and all. Keep good study habits and some may try and discourage you. If your heart and soul is into nursing, you'll do it no matter what. Let no one stop you. I will say that Nursing 3 and 4 were the hardest for me.

I'm waiting for the boards so I can start working as a RN. I can't wait. Hope I pass the first time around. My fingers are crossed.

I hope you all attend great schools and will have some wonderful instructors who will be great mentors to you. That is important. Good luck to all of you. We need many more nurses. I heard the average age of a RN today is 44 years old.

Congratulations to all of you who made it into nursing school for fall of 2009 and to you Samantha for graduating. I know how all of you feel. You are all going to be entering into a very different world than you are use to. That is not to say it is bad, just different.  Work hard, study daily and never let anyone discourage you. You can do it and the thrill of graduation is worth it, isn't it Samantha. To you Samantha, you world is going to be different also. You have worked hard to graduate and now you will work hard to become the best nurse that you can. There is an old saying that "nurses eat their young". That does not have to be true. Do not be intimidated by the experienced nurses, do not let them get you down. You will learn as you go and will soon be an experienced nurse.

Again....CONGRATULATIONS  ALL

Congratulations!  Nursing school is what you make it.  If you study hard, are organized, and stay focused, you will do fine.  Try to still have a sense of humor since that will help you through the hard times.  Don't take things personal if a seasoned nurse puts your way of doing something down, just remember, you are learning and everyone has a different way of doing things.  You'll figure out what works best for you too.  There is no way you can know everything.  Be serious. but don't forget to laugh as often as you can.  It helps to reduce the stress.  You came this far, you are smart and can do it!!!  You are going to love it!!  :)

In re: "an old saying that says nurses eat their young".....There are those "older" nurses who think younger nurses are expendable. All I can say is this: YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER WHERE YOU CAME FROM!
At one time we were ALL NEWBIES! Scared and full of promise! Just remember WHO YOU ARE "NEWBIE"...where you are going and how you are going to get "there"! You have the promise and the knowledge to start out and the rest of the knowledge you get... you learn until you retire! I never stopped learning! I am still learning! Albiet computers.....and now I have to learn how to make the "SIMPLE" step of adding a laptop and find my "WIFI" connection (or whatever) ......Easy? Most likely, if you have done this 100 times, but the 1st few times of trying .....and FAILING....does not make it look that "easy" to me! Give me a catheterization or walking a brand new post-op! I am more comfortable at those ROFL! :)
Good Luck to everyone and REFUSE to let ANYONE make you re-think your nursing career! Debi/peetce

I'm in my third month of LPN school, and must say as long as you study your stuff you've learned everyday, you can do it. You always want to go over it before 24 hours are up, that way you put it in your longterm memory, the more often you look it over after that the better you can memorize it.

I am at the end of my 3rd semester of nursing school and will have 2 left. This summer semester is really hard (2 weeks left to go woohoo). I will tell you the 2 things that have gotten me through this hard time... 1.) Others have done it.... so it is hard, but it is possible (always know that). 2.) someone to talk to and let me vent and also celebrate the good things. One of my instructors gave us great advise. ORGANIZATION is key!!! Take it one test, one paper, one care plan, and one drug card at a time. Do whats due first then move on. You will do great!!! Congradulations!

Desiree, this advice from Ladybug is so very important. There is so much going on during nursing school that taking it one at a time is important. I will say though that the do what is due first is good advice except for one thing. Do not wait until your papers are due to start them. Work on any papers a little bit every day, so when it is getting close, you just need to polish it up and submit it.

What they mean by that is that you will basically have no time to do anything but nursing.. the studying requires a tremendous amount of your time because some of the material is so hard, but if you plan your time correctly and don't wait until the last minute to study, you may be able to etch in some free time in there, allow yourself just one day where you take a rest from it all, let the stress levels go down for the day, go out with your friends, go shopping, whatever makes you the least stressed that way when you come back to all that nursing stuff, your mind is less stressed and tired and you'll be able to focus more. The instructors may seem intimidating at times, but don't let them get you down like they did me. Just know in your heart this is what you truly want to do and that they are there merely to help you not to put you down. If they seem intimidating at times, it's because they want you to succeed (and some people say it's their license on the line too! haha) Also, your instructors are gifts, once you're out of nursing school, you don't have an instructor to  tell you that you're giving the wrong dose of a med, or you're doing that IV wrong, accept them and don't gripe about them. Good luck with your program!
