| Posted almost 4 years ago I personally just decided to take things in small steps. A family friend is a NP and suggested I take the training to become a CNA and go on to get my LPN from there. I got my certification a few months ago and currently work nights in a nursing home as a CNA. In the fall I will be starting my LPN program. I would suggest you get your CNA first and work as a aide for at least six months to get the feel of it. Best of luck to you! |

| Posted almost 4 years ago If you're really interested in going into the nursing field I'd start out as a CNA. That is where I'm starting at now. This is why I say to start as a CNA. If you have issues getting financial aide or even if your quite capable of paying for the class yourself check your local nursing homes and see if they offer a CNA class at the nursing home that you can apply to be in. Typically if they do you will have to work there for a set amount of time or else you pay for your TB test and your physical. Some nursing homes even have a program that pays for your LPN classes as well. The nursing home that I'm going through for my CNA classes allows you to apply for tuition payment after you've been there for a year as a CNA. You have to work 1 hour for every dollar that they pay towards your LPN schooling. Great thing about going that way is you know you're going to have a definant place that you are familiar with when it comes time to do your clinicals and also you will be working with familiar staff and residents. BIG plus in my book.
I hope this helps you out some! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

| Posted almost 4 years ago Around here you have to get your CNA before you can even apply to LPN or RN school. It is not a choice. I worked as a Medical Assistant for years and only did the clinicals for my CNA. I don't really want to work as a CNA in a nursing home but maybe a hospital if poss. Good Luck!! |
