This is my first semester of actual nursing courses and everything goes good until the skills tests...I've passed them all so far (as miraculous as it may seem) but they are so nervewracking.....anyone have any good tips on how to chill out before taking the test?

It is nerve-wracking, but all I can say is practice practice. At home, on other students, etc.. That makes it a little more comfortable.

I think that everyone stresses out during skills test. I know I was shaking like a leaf most of the time. Do you have any open labs where you can go in and practice? I know that helped calm me down a little. It is a lot easier if you practice on real people instead of "dummies". Although our instructor told us that we couldn't go home and cath our husbands!!! LOL! Hang in there it gets easier!

The way I prepare for skills tests is first practice hands on, get familiar with the equipment. Then, teach other students; that sometimes helps until you get someone saying, "you forgot to..." they usually get a glare for breaking my concentration. Once I'm comfortable with the equipment, a couple of nights before my test I memorize the steps and I go early to watch other students, can't let them know you are there watching, and I practice. My skills instructor complimented me and my study buddy (got to have one of those in nursing school) on how smooth we perform our skills; she just raised the bar on us. So, now I feel more pressure. Thank goodness it is my last skill I have to do. WHEW! Good Luck...just get comfortable with what you have to do. You will do great!
