Posted almost 4 years ago Hi everybody! I am a student of Medical university. I live in Russia, and doctors and nurses here often have an awful handwriting, and nobody knows why. What about American nurses and doctors? |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Well...here in the Philippines, too...so hard to understand, (in fairness, not all of them, just some nurses, aw sorry for the doctors...they have the worst handwriting in the world!, like they took special class to learn how to write illegibly!) Like this is already expected from them to have this kind of handwriting?! Very dangerous, it could cause misunderstanding/ or miscommunication, and possibly endangering the patient's life. I guess its about time that we should do something about this... "happiness depends upon ourselves" |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I have a theory on this. Many people have to write a lot to study and take notes. Degenerative arthritis and other repetitive stress injuries can result from this and from just the day to day duties in the clinical setting. Add that to the need to write fast & you get some awful, illegible handwriting. Remember, it is just a theory of mine. What do you think about it? Years ago I had a pretty good handwriting; now, it is just chicken scratch; and, it is even hard to grasp a brush when I blow dry my hair. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago loricatus, I think, you theory is true. I though, that Russian doctors have an awful handwrite because of they wrote too a lot and too fast in university. But if doctors all over the world write illegible, there are some other reason for it, for example, you theory - it looks true!

| Posted almost 4 years ago Generally two reasons for poor handwriting: 1. Your penmanship essentially sucks. 2. You're in such a hurry that you can't be bothered to take the time and make it legible. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago That's why I always print when writing nurses' notes or anything else. Takes a little more time, but no one has problems understanding what I write. I learned that in engineering classes -

| Posted almost 4 years ago I think bad handwriting is a required class for doctors. And I also print all my notes. I would hate for something to come back and bite me because I was unable to read my own writing. Nursing it's how I live my life..... |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I have found that I have the same problem. The faster I write, the worse my handwriting gets. As for the docs, they take a class in med school called chicken scratch 101. |
i need to ask most of them to tell me what they wrote!
