Hello There,....I just started this group to find out how Mother Nature has improved your life as well as her own.

For me, I know that she has been very therapeutic.  I suffer from Depression, and by working in my garden, not only does it get me out of the house and busy doing something, I feel like I am contributing to the betterment of Mother Nature herself.  I have transformed, with the help of my best friend, a once dreary patch of land into a living piece of artwork.  It was hard work, being that the native soil in my area is comprised of mostly clay.  Now, after a year of hard work and diligence, I see something that brings me joy....and good eats!

What about the rest of you?

I personally love the calming effects of the ocean. It is like a "pulling" effect on stress when I get around it. Just walking on the beach, or sitting in the sand and letting the water come up and reach my toes and feet, the stress just leaves me, and is carried away, far away. When I fell stressed, I go to that place in my head and it actually has the same effect.

I have to agree with you regarding the calming effects of the sounds of the ocean .....

Another place that is absolutely magical for me is the Redwood groves in Humboldt county here in California.  I believe it to be a truly healing experience.  I can actually hear the trees talking there.

Just a side note, I read that an herbal remedy for relieving symptoms of depression is done by making a mixture of crushed Rosemary with white wine,....and taking a teaspoon a day.  I plan to make this up and give it a try.  I hear that Rosemary is good for relieving symptoms of Depression.

Try Gotu Kola, and a tablespoon of molasses(full of potassium) in a glass of milk each day, is a great energy boost and spirit-lifter for me!

Thanks for the suggestion!

I also find that working outside in the garden keeps me busy and takes my mind off of things.  The added benefit is seeing all the beautiful flowers in bloom...  =)

I've always loved being outside, even when I was a child.  Now that the weather is more condusive to gardening, I like being outside even more.

I have a female raccoon that likes to come up to the porch and eat the left-over dry cat food on my porch.  Last night she brought her young ones with her.  I counted three babies,...looked like they were still young enough to suckle.  They were so cute and small-and very curious.  I politely shooed Mama off the porch and asked Mother Nature to watch over her and her babies.

My friend and I gave thanks to Mother on the eve of the summer solstice.  It was a simple but beautiful and touching ceremony.

Is Gotu Kola an actual name for molasses in milk?  I never knew that. I have been drinking molasses in milk almost every day for over 40 years. My mom made us kids drink it when I was young and I just continued to do it. I also put a teaspoon of molasses in my herbal tea.

I understand that Gotu Kola is an herb supplement that helps increase energy.  I have seen it as an additive in some "energy" drinks.  I know that it is also available in vitamin/herbal supplement stores.

I have not tried molasses in milk, though I do have a bit of honey in my tea every morning-helps take the bitterness out.

I've been doing more work in the garden.  Bought more Lantana to put in dry areas-they seem pretty drought-resistant.  Had to move one of our hydrangeas,...just wasn't getting enough water in the spot it had been.

The plants that I rescued from rite-aid are coming along just fine.  The roses have gone through one cycle of blooming, going on another.

We've started getting ripened tomatoes on our plants along with peas.  I've seen a couple of baby cucmbers on one of our vines..

I just love Nature,....she gives us so many wonderful things =)

My 9 gardens are my most favorite things in the world.  Everyday I go out into my backyard and just wander around.   When something is budding and almost ready to pop it's like Christmas waiting for the explosion of beauty to unfold.  It's so amazing when a flower blooms. It's like god's little fireworks.   How something  so beautiful  can emerge from a planted seed is purely a miracle.  I love walking through the woods especially after it rains.  The smell is intoxicating.  The Earth has a drawing power that relaxes all your senses.  Breathe deep, Releases.  Enjoy the sensation.   Mother Nature is good medicine.

Wow, ...I would like to see some pictures of your gardens if you have any.  I too wait like an antsy child at Christmas time when I see all the blooms in the garden.

I expanded the vegetable patch a bit and placed a brick border around it.  Now I'm working on placing a brick border around the other part of our garden next to the veggie patch.  I tried to level the ground to make the bricks set right but I think I dug too deep(oops!).....

The baby cucumber I mentioned in an earlier post was delicious =)

We've had vine ripenend tomatoes for the last month and I must say that I'm spoiled by them.  You just can't get that taste from store bought tomatoes.

Our peppers are getting ready to harvest.  I tried one of the thai variety, and I can still feel my tongue tingling...yikes!

Our squash don't seem to be doing as well as we hqad hoped....but we keep watering and talking to them.

There are soo many benefits to gardening.  I found a book titled Subtle healing when I went to Barnes and Noble.  Very interesting reading.  It tells of how we (humans) are connected to the Earth by way of different types of 'fields'-be they magnetic, electromagnetic, etc.  We are connected and we benefit form the earth just as Mother benefits from us.

Just got back from the local 'peddler's faire'.  Couldn't help myself-bought some black bearded irises.  Will be planting those soon.

I will be posting pictures of the garden on my photo album so pop by, have a peek and let me know what you think.

I  love the out doors, that is why walking is my favourite way of getting exercise. I enjoy the various scenery when I'm walking, inhaling the nice fresh breeze, feeling that same cool fresh breeze i the face is like having heaven on earth.

I have a small fenced backyard, but I have made it a haven for myself.  Working out there, or just enjoying the beauty of the trees and plants, truly has a calming and healing effect on me - physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.  I find that the gift of being able to tend and nurture a living thing from seed to fruition is exciting and calming at the same time.  I work in L&D, so I am very lucky to see the birth of humans AND the birth of plants!  There are loads of little creatures in my yard, too; several types of lizards, frogs, toads, dragonflies, butterflies, & birds.  They all have a place in Mother's world!

PS - Gotu Kola works just like caffeine in your body.

I also have a small city yard, but I have some nice shade, a very nice rose garden and a small garden of tomatoes and peppers. I enjoy workig in the yard and I enjoy the fruits of the garden....both edible and aesthetic. I also have many bird feeders and I also feed  the squirrals and raccoons.
