OMG.....I too have school, 2 kids, hubby, house...I wish I had a good answer, but I don't.  Sometimes it is so hard to come "down" after a really busy day of work and school.  For me, it seems like I never get the opportunity to unwind. I constantly feel tired and wonder if all of this is ever gonna pay off.  Honestly, just going to bed at night is a blessing!  One thing that I do about every 6 months is go away with my husband for little romantic getaway.  We usually go somewhere close to home like Chicago, but it is SO refreshing.  Even just a quiet evening at home without the kids is such a treat for me.  I'm pretty easy to please....a pizza, some DVDs, a bottle of wine and I'm good.  Do you get help around the house with household chores?

It is really hard to to destress when you are in nursing school especially when you have a family.  They what to be supportive but it is hard because thye are used to having your attention most of the time and now nursing school is ALL  consuming.  I really don't have the answer but take advantage of all the help they are willing to give.  If hubby offers to do something take him up on it.   And if he doesn't do it the way you would so what... just be happy it is done.  Don't suffer in silence.  Ask for help.  It's hard for us as women to admit we are not superwomen but nursing school is hard and you need the help to get through.  Your family might as well realize that they are in nursing school too and hopefully they will be supportive of you till then end.  Just explain what yu are going through and trust me they probably will  not understand but it does help to tell them how you are feeling and how over whelmed you are.  GOOD LUCK>  By the way I am done in Dec. Praise the Lord!!!

NursingLink would love to put together an article on how nurses destress, and we'd like some direct quotes from  you! If you'd like to be featured in the article, share your destressing technique on this forum and mention that you would like to be included in the article. We'll include your technique and your user name in the up-coming article.

Thanks!

I have not started nursing school yet but I will be  this coming fall. I just completed my A.S in Business Managment full time with 2 kids and hubby I found that yoga, at home spa, laying out at night and looking at the stars helped me.

If you know somebody in your place who does foot reflexology try it.

I am not in the Nursing School yet but I am going there. This is how I manage stress. When I am at work, I focused only on the job I am doing at the moment. I do not usually think about home, husband or anything else outside work.  At the end of the shift when I clock out I leave all the stress, tiredness, and whatever stressor about work, the moment I step out of the door. This way I can face my husband with smile, I can sit on the computer without heavy heart, and then I can tidy up and do some chores before I retire to bed.

Start a journal.  That includes thoughts you need to vent out.  I have started doing this because It helps me to put thoughts on paper.  You could even include ways you can make stressful situations that have occured better.  Just a suggestion.  It helps me.  This nursing link has helped too b/c I am a major worry wort, and the journal thing was suggested by one of my instructors.  Try it in your "me time".

God only gives us what we can handle.

What I did when I was in nursing school, was to come home and get into the shower/bath for 30 mins.  Put some aroma therapy in there at let the stress soak away.  Also really liked reading a book, (non nursing) while in there.   If that does not work, try yoga, pilates, or just plain old school music.
