Felony downfall?

| Posted over 3 years ago Hi - this is LawyerRN (now known as CaptainericRN) - No, the primary bar to hiring is STATE regulations. I enforced both State law and Medicare/caid regs. It is the State regs regarding nurses which specify which crimes are a bar to licensing - in many cases the Board of Nursing will deal with each case individually, but some crimes (e.g. sex offenses) may be an absolute bar. And I agree, the focus on drug offenses is ridiculous, especially a 15 year bar! When you renew your license they will ask (at least in New Jersey) if you have had any convictions since the last renewal - tell the truth. If they catch you lying they can PERMANENTLY bar you from renewal. Rick...., JD, MPA, RN |

| Posted almost 3 years ago First of all I would like to say I have the same exact problem. I have felonies on my background and I am also in the process of becoming a cna all I can say is give it a shot at least you can put forth the effort to prove that you have made a change in your life. I know that some provisions have a time limit (ie, five years or seven years) you will have to consult with BON to find exactly how it works with the time frame from the time you were convicted of the alleged crime. Keep the faith because I have already invested in my future hopefully it will work out

| Posted almost 2 years ago I am now going through the same problem in 2004 I was caught giving an auto insurance false infro. inregard of the person that was with me the day my car got stoolen. Y? to speed up the claim process this person was very hard to get a hold of and insurance would not proceed without her info. DUMB of ME I know. Well went to court and pleaded to insurance fraud. Completed my sentence of comunity service and paid my fees. I continued going to school cuz my lawyer said U CAN STILL BE NURSE. Ive been working as a LVN and love nursing. I got into my third nursing program and dont know if I can even start it because I have been kicked out of two already because the hospitals wont even grant my clearance for clinical. I quit my job to start one of the programs which dropped me after a month. Now I am jobless and cant find a job. Employers hear my crime and dont want to hire me. And let me add I got my Felony dissmissed (expungment in ca.) to a misdemeaner and in the process of getting it dissimssed off, if the judge approves. But it dontseem to help. Im thinking of changing my career but to what? and what does my family and I do right now? i know i did wrong and with I can take it back but i cant. Yeah i need to pay for what i did but till when and how long? i guess just prey for me I will for anybody who is in the same boat |

| Posted almost 2 years ago You need to read the posts here. Captain Eric RN explains about how certain offenses can affect your ability to enter nursing programs and even to get licensed once you graduate. It all goes back to something I believe everything you do comes back to you like a BOOMERANG!!!! |
