| Posted almost 4 years ago I once visited the ER in Winchester, VA when my boyfriend sliced his finger open on a table saw. I never in all my life saw so many houseflies in a hospital!! Both in the waiting room and the little treatment room where his finger was getting wrapped. Fly City. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I am not from Virginia, but I did live in Virginia Beach for about 4 yrs (my husband is Military). I was not impressed with VA nor their healthcare system. I am not sure the pay at hospitals, but I worked for a 7 Physician Speciality office and the pay for the NPs, RN's, LPN's and MA's was horrible. For what the girls were expected to do and the long hours they were putting in. Most of the time they got preprimanded for the OT they were getting (lets not say anything to the Doctor who is running 4 hrs behind because he would rather walk around, flirt with drug reps, or talk to his girlfriend on the phone). I mostly dealt with the Military hospital there, but I do know that one of the girls in my husbands command was hit in the face with a tool, they had her sitting in the ER (at a non-military facility) bleeding with a huge hole in her lip for hours. The weather is ok....the only thing I enjoyed about Virginia Beach was the beach... I am from Texas, so VA was a complete culture shock to me. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I have heard bad things about the pay in Virginia. It is a nice state weather wise though. A good man loves other. A better man loves God. A great man loves God and lives well among others! I miss you daddy!

| Posted almost 4 years ago I am from VA, raised here since I was 6 months old. It's a great state to live in as long as you remember a few "rules"...1. Northern VA (Washington DC area, including the above-mentioned Winchester) is a COMPLETE other country compared to the rest of the state. Oh, excuse me, Commonwealth. I REFUSE to go to NOVA unless it's a dire emergency. 2. Stay away from the City of Richmond. It's a great place to visit, but you don't want to live here (unfortunately I do for the time being). It's a very historical city and nice in some places, but the murder rate is very high. We are already at 30 something for the year! Not to mention the city ordinances are dumb and will drive you nuts. Also, Hampton isn't a great place to live but the surrounding areas are nice. 3. If you don't like the weather wait a minute, it will change. 4. If you want to live in the country you're better off in Western VA or in the Shenandoah Valley...both are nice but the poverty rate is pretty high in Western VA. and 5. If you want to live at the beach don't go to VA Beach unless you enjoy crowds of tourists. Go a bit farther south to Sandbridge or North into the peninsulas or the Eastern Shore. As for pay, I really couldn't tell you how it is as compared to other states. I've never known anything else, but I have heard from others that Maryland pays much better. Hope it helps! |
