Posted over 5 years ago A genie gave three physicians one wish each. The first physician said, "I'm already the smartest pediatrician in the world, but I'd like to be 25% smarter."
The third physician told the genie, "I'm not only the smartest surgeon in the world, but I'm also the smartest person. But, just to be sure, I'd like you to make me 100% smarter."
"Okay," said the genie. Poof! "You're a nurse practitioner!!" |

Posted over 5 years ago you know what? I don't really like this joke. I understand it and know it's meant to be funny. But it makes you think that Nurse Practitioners aren't that smart. a Nurse Practitioner can be just as smart but doesn't have the education that a MD has. To me, smartness and education are two different things. Sorry cdnurse. I know you're just trying to get some laughs.

Posted over 5 years ago I thought it was cute! I didn't get that the Nurse practitioner is dumb, but that she/he is 100% smarter than the surgeon. Did I miss read this?

Posted over 5 years ago Hey cd, a couple weeks ago i stared reding the old lady following you around story and was getting a little worried about ya. In the middle of reading it I had to answer the phone or something and was thinking "man that lady is loosing it... shes hallucinating... hope she's not holed up in her house trying to catch this suposed old woman...ya never know about these things". Well I just laughed when I came back and finished the story. I'm taking 4 days off, decided I've been working too much (psych).

Posted over 5 years ago CD I was wondering if you could give me some helpful info regarding NP. I am currently a nurse finishing up with my ASN and am interested in becoming a(n) NP. What are the requisites....ie, do you have to have a BS or can you have a(n) ASN? Also, how long is the program?

Posted over 5 years ago aliciayd1: you will need your BSN before going on for the NP The NP is under the Masters program. There are several programs out there. The accelerated is a one year course. I would not suggest that unless you have lots of money saved and do not have to work. You would need a maid and a cook as well. The two year and one semester was hard enough. Hang in there. We need NPs.

Posted over 5 years ago Lfograd05: The responsibility is enormous. I am so glad that I went on for the NP. Well worth the grueling hours of study. I suggest you start as an RN if you have the time and money. If not, start as an LPN. Nursing is a tough career if you are going to start a family. Shift work, holidays. Check out everything before making a final choice. There are many options in the healthcare field.
