Posted over 5 years ago I am in the process of starting school to become a nures. Nursing is something that I have always wanted to do. I have always been concerned about how others feel and if their was anything that I could do to help them or help their situation. |

Posted over 5 years ago Angeliclly16, just hang in there! Everyone has felt that way at some point in their lives for one reason or another. I know how you feel personally, I've been there myself and was at that piont for a while. I just looked around at everything that was going on in mylife and realized that it was time to do something. I also did not finish high school but I am happy to say that I am in the final stages of getting my GED. I know that to make my life what I want it to be I am the only one that can change it; for myself, my kids and my husband. I believe that you know what you want but you are nervous about going for it. Your maybe scared of failure but don't be you can do it! I believe in you! just remember that you are your own worst enemy and the only one that can stop you from achieving your dreams is YOU.

Posted over 5 years ago RevinKevin said: I am really envious of those of you who have already been accepted into the ADN-RN Program. Day-time workers: did you quit your day-time jobs to accommodate nursing school and look for night jobs? If so, what did you do to continue having medical and dental benefits? I am waiting anxiously to sign up for those prerequisite classes in order to become eligible for the ADN-RN Program. I don't have to worry about accommodating the ADN Program until after a year or two; however, it would be good for me to get a game-plan going. At 38, I am finally following my desire to become an RN like my mother. I am totally appreciative of this website. It keeps me informed about real-life experiences from others as well as having access to academic and career advice.

Posted over 5 years ago Sinimin, I think you are doing the right thing by having a game plan. I also can't wait to get signed up for the prepequisite classes but I have to take it one step at a time, I am still getting my GED. What I wanted to tell you is that I have 2 kids 3 & 15mths, I work full time and I go to classes for my GED I am the Queen of working around anything in a schedule. What i am saying is if you want it to work,it will work. You will find a way to balance everything to fit your life. You still have a while so don't stree to much, save that for your prerequisites and the anatomy & physiology! Good Luck!

Posted over 5 years ago Meagan - Thanks and good luck to you too! True- if there is a will, there is a way. I'm just paranoid about quitting a stable, FT job but I will do what it takes to accommodate nursing school. Yes ma'am, one step at a time is the only way that I can approach changing my career over.

Posted over 5 years ago Congradulation Meagan! I think all of you will be valuable assets to the healthcare community. People need someone taking care of them that is compassionate and real. We are alll human, we all have struggles and obstacles in our lives and it is up to us to climb over the walls to accomplish our goals. We also have eachother to push eachother up when we are down. Angeliclilly16, keep your chin up and your eye on the prize. Think of were you want to be in five years then list the things you need to do to get there, then take it one step at a time. Good luck and God bless all of you!

Posted about 5 years ago I applaud all of you! You have the passion to be a nurse and that's what it takes. I started nursing school at the age of 44. I am now 45 and a couple months away from getting my LPN. I will continue on for another year and get my ADN-RN. There's a man in my class who works full time, has 4 kids and will graduate with honors. There's another girl in my class who has 5 kids, all under the age of 9, she 's doing well too. My point is: Don't ever think it's too late to pursue your dream. Talk to your financial advisors at school and see what grants and loans you can qualify for. There will be times that you get really discouraged and think "what am I doing" but it passes. Take everything one step at a time. I try to break things down and when I see what I've accomplished I realize that I CAN DO THIS. Keep the positive attitude and never give up. You have all your friends here on Nursing Link that want to see you succeed. When you feel down or overwhelmed just log in and I guarantee there will be someone who will inspire and build you up! God Bless you all!!!!! Stacie

Posted about 5 years ago It's never to late to do what you love! NursingLink is a great place to start! If you are looking for schools, try NursingLink's School Finder. A great option for you might be an Accelerated BSN program. These usually take 18-21 months.

Posted almost 5 years ago I'm 35 and just starting my prereq's, but I'm lucky, been doing medical transcription at home for 13 years and continuing to do that whenever I don't have class basically, and then weekends are all for school/study. I can work my own hours so I'm very thankful for my current job, then when I enter ADN program, I'm going full-time, and whatever time I get to work, I'll work. School is #1 priority right now, hoping for CRNA, so I have 7 years ahead of me at least,. When CRNA comes around I'll have to obtain loans to live and provide for my family for those 28 months, so that's the scariest thing to me. My baby will be in 2nd grade by the time I'm in CRNA school!! But hey, I will be able to take him and my then-15-year-old son on family vacations, have a stable career, love what I do. Can't ask for more than that. Figure what you want to do, most ADN programs don't recommend the night and weekend route, but most community colleges offer it; they say if you plan on having a day job and do it at the same time it's near impossible, but if you're determined enough, you can do anything (keep in mind your clinicals will also be on the weekend). I don't even know where I'm gonna get the gas money to take my baby back and forth to daycare then go to school 6 mornings a week, but darnit, I'll find a way. Since I always worked at home, walked my 8-year-old to bus stop, I barely have a gas "bill" so I'm wondering where I'm gonna get the extra cash for gas, but I have been applying for scholarships, about 20, since June, and will keep trying. If something pans out, problem solved. (Some counties pay for daycare, pay for school, and supply gas cards, but mine's not one of them, have thought about moving! LOL) If you wanna do it, do it. If you think you need to take 1 class a semester til you really get interested, do that. Everybody's different. Good luck to everybody no matter what you decide about school, how to work while attending school, etc. Just remember, if you really want to do it, find a way and it will happen. I myself will be eating PB&J's for the next year so I can afford gas for daycare and school!!
