Posted about 4 years ago I recently gained acceptance into a 2 year Nursing Program RN B.S. in the Baltimore, Maryland on June 1st. I was formerly as biology major (100 credits in 4 years) looking for a solid career and knew Nursing was for me. My problem is that I am trying to gain hospital employment/exp; I have applied for tons of basic Transporter and Companion jobs, with no luck. Any ideas on what I should do or try?

| Posted almost 4 years ago I just graduated from a university in Texas, we have two local hospitals and both hired nursing students, the position is called Nurse Extern. Perhaps the hospitals in your area have a similar program. Ours consisted of basically doing CNA work but the experience was good and the hospitals offered more money to those who participated in the program (more money per hour starting pay). Good Luck. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Hi, I live in the Baltimore area. I would check local hospital's employment on their websites to see if they have any job openings for nursing students. There are many hospital-based jobs out there for nursing students; however, most of these jobs require a current CNA license. From what I understand, once you finish your first semester in RN school and take the fundamentals of nursing class, then you can challenge the CNA exam and get licensed. Here are a few links. Just do a google search for each hospital and then find their employment page on their site. http://www.lifejobs.org/iframe_lifejobs.cfm http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/employment/ http://www.ummc-careers.com/ http://www.gbmc.org/body.cfm?id=202&fr=true Nursing extern jobs are good, but they are hard to come by and a lot of them require that your are in your senior year as a nursing student. I would keep trying to look for BLS transport jobs in the area. Don't quote me on this, but I think most of these transport companies want their employees to have EMT-Basic certification. I am not familiar with your credential and if it is comparable to an EMT-B. Best of luck to you! |
