-Which type of thermometer do you prefer? The mercurial or digital? and Why?  thanks

because for the past few years... some prefer the mercurial one, because they said its more accurate... but.... now, in our institution we are all required to use the digital one... kinda weird.. what should i really use....

Mercury is more accurate, but Mercury is highly toxic, so the digital is safer.

Both, but for different reasons. I prefer to get a temp. with a mercurial thermometer during baseline vitals. If there is no fever and the pt. isn't at high risk of or c/o a condition in which a fever may occur I just go with the digital. However, if the pt. is febrile I prefer mercurial as it is more accurate. Unfortunately the mercurial thermometers are a bit hard to come by these days due to the fear of mercury poisoning if it breaks.
