My fellow classmate is a LVN and was taking a transition couse such as the 30 unit option Registered Nursing Diploma program. She wanted to know can she later go back to a junior college and get her ASN, and would she have to apply for a different license after passing the NCLEX.

I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California. I've worked as a heathecare provider for almost 10 years. I am curently in school to pursue my MSN in nursing, and wants to work as a pediactric nurse, in public health.

If she was taking a Registered Nursing Diploma program, it sounds like she would be eligible to take the NCLEX after completing the program, in which case she wouldn't really need to go back to junior college for her ASN.

Was it a hospital-based diploma program? If so, what hospital?

I graduated from a nursing diploma program in the 1970s, and I hope the old programs start coming back. I received an excellent nursing education.

I have been trying to research some of these diploma programs - they are hard to find but I know there are still some out there. Does anyone know of any good diploma programs?

The program was at County UCS Medical Center Los Angeles, California. It was a transition course for LVN's to become Registered Nurses through the 30 unit option method, And yes some hospital let you become a nurse through programs under the them if you're already a LVN you can transition or bridge to become a Register Nurse if you have taken Anatomy, Phsiology, and Microbiology and with your experience as a LVN you can go through a transition program and become a Diploma Register Nurse. I work at UCLA Medical Center, and I am in the method three CNA to LVN program, all you need is pharmocology, sterile technique, and medical terminolgy, and 51 months of experience. You can challege the Board's of Nursing and become a LVN. UCLA also has a transition course that allows a experience LVN to go through Santa Monica Community College 30 unit option program. Hopefully I will get into a RN program before or during my experience working as LVN. I am on my last preriqusite to apply to some RN programs. Wish me Luck!

Good luck cuttie! It sounds like you have been fortunate to find a range of options in the Los Angeles area. Have you or anyone else heard of some similar programs elsewhere in the country?

Yes, there are home study courses that offer you this same option. Indianna State Univesity has a online program that gives LVN's the options to get their BSN online if they have graduated through an accredited LVN program. Since I am doing the method three option, I am not qualified to do this online program. both methods can be obtain with experience working in any hospital and most Community Colleges in the state of California offer LVN's the option to transition to become a Registered Nurse. Indianna State University has a online course that offer LVN's that option to get their BSN online, but you have had graduated from accredited LVN program. I did not qualify for this particular program, because I am doing the method three option, which limits me to work only in the state of California. The 30 unit option nurses can't work in other states too, they are limited to the state of California also. to answer your question, some states have this option, but your License is limited to that state only! Most states only recognize a Registered Nurses license that had completed 2 years at accrediated RN program, any other professions such as LVN's will have to complete their LVN course in their state Indianna State University is the only school that I've investigated that allow other state LVN's to do a Registered Nursing course online.

Are there grants for LPN's that are married and work full time? I'd like to go back to school online for my RN I'm just afraid of how much it will cost. Adrienne Poli
