I recently had a question regarding adolescent hemophilia on the NCLEX.  Which is more necessary for a 14 year old boy?  Iron fortified juice (16oz) each day, or folic acid daily?

Any input will help

Thanks

wow, tough question

I would go with the Folic acid daily. An adolescent can only absorb so much iron, but would benefit from the daily dose of Folic acid. That's just me, if the choice is which drug is more important on a daily basis. Iron supplements can be give 2-3 times a week. Plus the risk for clotting with iron. Make me favor the folic acid.

I meant to say constipation not clotting, when taking iron.

I am still leaning toward the folic acid daily, but I can see the rationale for the iron.
