When I graduated, I went immediately into nursing school because of lack of funds.  There were no loans @ the time.  I wanted to do somethng in medical.  For many years I have been a Realtor.  I am in the Million Dollar Club.  Have had many interesting jobs in nursing.

I believe the patience I have in nursing helped in my RE career.  I only work 2 shifts/wk nursing and refer in RE.

I worked at Wendy's. I got sick of being verbally abused for a hamburger not being made to the customers specifications. i figured at least sick people had more a reason to complian.

For the most part I was a stay at home mom. I have worked as a waitress, at wal-mart, sold life insurance, as a nursing assistant, and did some factory work.  But I ALWAYS wanted to be a nurse.

I worked in optometry/ophthalmology for 22 years, 1996 became a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant.  I went to school not because I hated my job but because I wanted to enhance my knowledge.  I miss ophthalmology - it was my passion to help older people!  I will have my BSN at the end of this year, yet I press on seeking more education with the hope I will find my passion again...

I was a waitress, jewelry saleswoman, preschool teacher, office secretary, pig farmer, EMT.

i worked at mcdonalds all through high school, then cashier and assistant manager at walmart, then a press operator and inspector in a plastic factory, home health care as an aide, then i was an aide in a nursing home while i went to nursing school.

My father was a self employed Carpenter , General Contractor, so i took up the trade as Carpenter ... But the whole time he was a Fire Chief in a Vol Fire Dept... growing up watching him leave all hours of the night and hearing "The Red Phone Ring" sending him out into the bone chilling cold  sometime 35 -40 below zero.... as soon as I turned 18 I joined the fire dept and have been a fireman/Carpenter for 24 almost 25 years amd 4 years ago an EMT and going into nursing this Fall... I cant wait i love life in th ER..dropping the Hammer and Lifting a stethescope so much more challenging if you can believe it! I wont give up Firefighting because its who I am Not what I do.. and as a deputy chief and having medical experience under my Belt... there is no better feeling when you come home from a fire Knowing you did everything right and that family will live another Day!

It's intersting to hear so many different backgrounds and how we lead to the medical field.  I am not an RN yet, but going into the program in the fall.  I am actually a Director in the wonderful corporate world.  However, after being affected by the economy and being laid off from a previous company, it made me really reflect what I wanted to do with my life and not just be content, even though the money is good.

I always knew I wanted to be in the med field and after much time and thought, life always pulled me in the RN world.  I hope to be successful and live up to the success I plan myself having!

I worked for a furniture company for 18 years.  I started as a laborer in the sanding department and quickly made my way up to management. I was the first Woman supervisor in the history of the 150 year old company.   We made high end quality furniture. Unfortunately the economy and imports pulled us down and the owners were forced into bankrupcy.  200  employees lost there jobs and were offered a grant to retrain in any field we wanted.  I chose the medical field because in the 18 years that I worked in the factory I was always on the first aid team and took pride in the care and safety of my employees.  When everyone was running from an accident, I was running to it with my medical bag.  All my friends and co-workers said I should go into nursing because I was so good at what I did.  So I went to school and became a Registered Medical Assistant.  It's a start and I hope to continue my studies and become an RN someday. prior to that I was a waitress for 11 years and also worked in a casket factory for a year.  I know GROSS. 

I was a babysitter, worked in fast-food restaurants, in a Baskin & Robbins Ice Cream store, in a printing factory, and went through a Physical Therapy Assistant program before becoming a nurse.  Long ago I thought I wanted to be a vet or a PT.  I found I was really drawn to maternity nursing while in nursing school, though, and did my ADN & BSN preceptorships with midwives at the OLD hospital (now torn down) at Ft. Campbell, KY!
