Posted almost 4 years ago I just heard that Michael Jackson has died. Many people are rushing to UCLA hospital. What do you think of this? Should actors and singers be idolized the way they are? |

| Posted almost 4 years ago It was shocking to hear of Michael Jackson's death....I don't know if it is so much being idolized as it is...the fact that he was mysterious, fascinating, some thought of him as odd, he at one point was news worthy, but never the less a great pop icon, much like the Beatles, Rolling Stones...and so forth. Many people rushed to Parkland Memorial the day JFK was shot, not because they idolized him (to a degree some did....)but it was out of care, compassion, shock, disbelief, and because it was history in the making. I guess you could call it being idolized, I personally think they just want to be a part of the history. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago He seemed to me to be a sad man. I'll bet there were people exploiting him for money. I felt sorry for the guy. He was one of the most talented Americans in the music industry and I was crazy about him. Angie, RIP MJ We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Our house was sad, too. He was a great guy, and made great music. Here everybody was mourning, and still are. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I felt sad that he died young. I don't think the people who went to UCLA hospital idolized him. I think the best to describe it is that the people are showing respect to a great man, who has touched their lives through his music. He is an inspiration. How sad that we lost a great man. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I really don't want to stir the pot, I'm just not convinced that he is actually dead. I have no real reason to say it, other than life as he knew it as an American icon was over. I can't help but believe that he deeply grieved the many losses he experienced since his career peaked and then plummeted because of all the bad press. If anyone could stage their own death it would be him. He certainly knows some of the most important and influential people in the world. It seems he has lived his life in total isolation anyway, and with more surgery he could once again become unrecognizable. I believe that many people have staged their own deaths over the years. I am not trying to spead rumors, but it was one of the first things that popped into my head when I heard of his death. He has gotten more positive publicity than he has had in years. He certainly was an interesting guy, and nobody can dispute how mega-talented he was. Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans ~ John Lennon Scott |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Wow SEAG! Never even thought of that. Isn't that what they always said about Elvis? Michael was a very mysterious person. I didn't listen to his music, but he was very talented.

| Posted almost 4 years ago The news of his death hit me, mostly because of his age and his stardom. It was very unexpected and a shame. Some are taking cheap jabs at the man now that he is gone. It is very disrespectful and noone should ever speak ill of the dead. Farrah Fawcett also passed yesterday. I knew it would eventually happen to her, that was expected, but still very sad. So, I just ask that everyone think of their families and respect this time for them. Think of it as a patient who has passed. It is never easy for anyone, especially the family, so we need to show empathy and let any feelings of anger or question leave our minds for that small moment. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I too felt sorry for him. He did seem like a very lonely man and I agree that a lot of people seemed to exploit him. I hate to see people live lonely lives. I can't even imagine how it must feel. I think it is unfortunate how our celebrities are treated. They can't be normal people. They may be very talented in what they do, but they are just doing a job, just like every one of us nurses do. Now granted, they do make a lot more money than we will make as a nurse, but even with all the money, so many are still lonely. I feel for all the celebrities that have their lives aired on the TV, or on the covers of magazines. Someone is always there waiting to exploit them and make a buck on them. I think what we forget, is that inside, they are just like everyone else. They have feelings and needs, and we so often forget that because we are in awe of them. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago SEAG- I am glad I was not the only one who thought about him faking his death. Maybe he was just tired of the lime light or maybe he was kooky enough to think he would maybe generate some publicity. BTW, I saw an interview this AM from one of his friends and this guy mentioned that his initial thought was that it was a publicity stunt and did not believe he was actually dead. Hmmmmm..... maybe. He'll turn up in some coffee shop in Wyoming or something! |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I don't know one way or the other; but I'm not going to rule out the possibility of him staging his death. An autopsy report isn't going to convince me either. I'm only expressing my skepticism, I'm not spreading a rumor. Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans ~ John Lennon Scott |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I think people start to believe that "stars" might have faked their own death because no one wants to face the fact that someone with that much talent and success is gone. Just like Elvis. He's dead. Probably from pills. I'm sure he had a great recipe each day for what he would digest. What bothers me is that I feel Farrah was pushed aside because of his death landing on the same day.

| Posted almost 4 years ago Sap- It's not that I can't believe he's actually gone. I was not that big of a MJ fan and I do not idolize stars so much that they are no longer real people. I am just skeptical by nature. I ascribe to the "Gregory House" notion that everyone lies. MJ is probably dead, but his sudden death (while tragic if true) does lend a little mystery. He was over 400 MILLION dollars in debt. A "faked death" would definately be alluring. I am not trying to start any rumors either. I have no "inside information on the Jackson family", but stranger things have happened! |

I'm sure there are people that are so intrigued with stars that they may deny that they are gone, but I am not one of them. I actually consider myself somewhat of a realist. I was not a big fan of Michael Jackson either. I thought he was a very talented man, but his style never tripped my trigger. My taste in music has never included pop. Though none of the allegations against Michael were ever proven (that I can recall), I always questioned his character. In my opinion, he certainly displayed many bizarre behaviors publicly. The recent chain of events has stimulated tons of publicity, and will certainly generate a fortune for the estate of Michael. Very interesting!!!!!!!! | Posted almost 4 years ago I am absolutely devastated by Michael's death. I feel a part of my youth died on June 25th, 2009. As a young girl, I had his posters all over my wall, and listened to his music non stop, that is until I discovered George Michael. To this day I am still a fan of George. I guess you could call it idolizing, I don't know, but George has been such an enormous part of my life since I was 12 that he is now a household name. You say the name George in my house and everyone knows who you are talking about. I'm sure it's the same with Michael. He had such an enormous impact on so many lives. The gift of his music and his seemingly endless talent. Music is a very powerful mechanism. How many times have you felt down and popped in one of your favorite CD's (records or tapes) and almost instantly felt recharged? The message behind music can be a very intense experience and can definitely affect ones psyche. I know for myself, I will truly miss Michael and will forever wonder what other gifts he may have shared with the world. ~ Laugh as much as you breath and love as long as you live ~ |

I just pop one of them in and they take me where I want to go. Samantha, you are correct. Farrah, Ed McMahan and Michael Jackson all died on the same day. Why is one persons death more important than anothers. The good part about this is that Farrah's and Ed's families were able to grieve without the full media attention on them. John L. Racher RN, BSN, MSRN-BC

| Posted almost 4 years ago They say he was addicted to Oxycontin. And, he took some depression meds. He certainly had his share of problems, including his dissatisfaction with his looks hence his numerous plastic surgeries. He was only 50. I am a proud mother of two beautiful daughters, Amy Ann and Susan Lynn. I have worked as a nursing assistant for the last fifteen years; am currently a nursing student (LPN) and will graduate in Spring 2010. Wish me luck on NCLEX. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Death is the great equalizer. I think when people are famous like he was, its easy to come up with conspiracy theories. I think he's gone.No-one can carry that kind of publicity based on a lie. They had pictures of him being put in the ambulance. Besides, would MJ want to be remembered for possibly being a drug overdose? Not likely. I too was in shock. I was working in ICU and one of the docs came to our unit and told all the nurses. We didn't believe him at first. He also told us Farrah had passed, and I was saddened, b/c she had just had that special on about her cancer fight a few months back. Death is sad for anyone who dies, and for the people who will miss them forever. I think it also scares us b/c we know that no-one can escape it. Including us. Claire Kruszka |
