Hey all, So I'm sure you've heard about the "new" Doctor of Nursing degree and how the AMA is all up-in-arms about it. They think there will be confusion for the patients if nurses introduce themselves as "Doctor Nurse." Seriously, this is ridiculous. Nurses who want to further their educations and be better care-takers is a GOOD THING. Why would anyone want to discourage that?

I'm super-intersted in this degree. Does anyone here happen to have their Doctor of Nursing degree or is anyone planning on going for it? I've love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

I'm thinking about it. I would definitely want to go DNP as opposed to PhD as I want to stay more in patient care rather than research. But let me slow down for a minute and finish my BSN first! I plan to pursue my master's and become a pediatric critical care or neonatal nurse practitioner...then I'll start thinking about a doctorate... Good luck to you!

Hello

According to my NP masters program, all "new" NP student starting in 2015 will be required to get a DNP to be certified.  I am thinking about continuing my studies and obtain the DNP after completing the MSN.  We'll see!
