Today, the 4th of July, is the day that we honor our country.   I think this law, is one of the best on the books.  The Stolen Valor Act, makes it illegal to claim any of the following unauthorized wear, manufacture, sale or claim (either written or verbal) of any military decorations and medals. It is a federal misdemeanor offense, which carries a punishment of imprisonment for not more than 1 year and/or a fine

This includes even the following;

  • If you put in your website, on your resume, or even just verbally claim that you received ANY medal or medals you did not--even something as basic as a campaign ribbon, you have violated Federal law.

  • If you claim, verbally or in writing, to be a former Ranger, Seal, Delta, USAF Pararescueman, Special Forces, etc. (elite units identified by special BADGES), you have violated Federal Law. (Since Jump Wings are a military badge, claiming jump status would also be a violation.

  • If you are in a chat room (remember, logs are easy to obtain) or even at your local watering hole, and try to impress a member of the opposite sex with false tales of heroism, elite unit status, or medals, you are committing a Federal offense.

This law was signed into effect in 2006 by President Geoge Bush....  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stolen_Valor_Act_of_2005

This is something I hadnt ever really thought about but its flat out stupid to swipe somebody's medal for showing off.   I had been planning on the yardsale I've been postponing for 3 years, and was going to put my husband uniforms out there...............it'll be deer season in the fall, fatiues and camaflage sells great.  My husband said 'make sure you take off all nametags and insignia'...........I see why now.  I thought he was just being picky and upset because Im selling his granmothers rotten dining room set.

We only have one heart, take care of it!
