ASN vs BSN

I don't know if this is in the right place to ask but I am 41 and have all my pre-req done and all I have to do is apply (get a few things together for the app but everything is done).  My question is I have read a lot about a lot of places doing away w the ASN (not around here though) and I just want to get my ASN I don't really want my BSN (I will be 43 when I am done if I get in this first time around).  I want to be working w patients and I am not interested in administration (I have been told I might change my mind but we will see).  I figure I have 15 yrs of work in me if not more but I don't want to take all the extra classes at this point in my life to get the BSN--I just don't feel I need it.

So, the questions:  What do you all think?  Is it crazy to just get my ASN?  I know I could bridge later if I wanted but right now that is not even on my radar.

I would really appreciate your opinions.  If I were younger then YES I would most likely go for the BSN.

THANKS!!

I'm in the same boat as you (taking all my prereqs to get into the nursing program). And I got to know a few working nurses who claims that there is a shortage of nurses that they'll take ASN no problem. I guess once you get working you'll just have to proof you are as competent as the next nurse.

Good luck!

I am seeing that more employers are asking for BSN.That might have to be your next step to stay in demand.
