Posted over 5 years ago Hey all! I am too excited about starting the Nursing Program in January! I need some advice.... I know that my family will ask me "what do you want for Christmas?"...I want to be able to have some good choices this year... What items do you wish you had your first year of nursing school or what item could you not live without throughout nursing school? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks |

| Posted over 5 years ago 1. A large wall or desk calendar, the kind with big squares that you can write in. Put in your due dates for tests, assignments and stuff and keep it in eyesight so you can stay on track...
Have a great first semester! |

| Posted over 5 years ago A case of printer cartrdges and a case of paper. I lke the Taber's Dictionary. Never seen the Stedman's. My sister's and my husband always balked when I asked for textbooks for Christmas but they always came through for me. My one sister said she had never seen anyone get so happy to have a textbook for Christmas. One sister bought me a stethoscope. I still have it. I am blessed. I have a whole bunch of sisters. |

| Posted over 5 years ago What everyone has said is definetely needed. Lots of index cards, a good printer/ink/copy paper. A good nursing care plan book also to help you with nursing diagnosis and internventions and rationales. I love my Gulanick nursing care plans book, get one that you can keep going back to even when you graduate. Lastly, USB drive I have a 1gig Im upgrading to a 4. You will need it, and a good drug guide/book that has IV in it.

| Posted over 5 years ago Geez, don't waste your wish list on school crap! A stethescope (you don't need a high dollar one for nursing school) and a good school planner are good things. The books & whatnot, you can look at those as you need them. |

| Posted over 5 years ago cdnurse said: Yes! Tabers rocks!! Also lots of paper and ink cartridges ( we email each other notes, alot ). Definately a calendar, note cards, and I use a clip board for clinicals to keep my flow charts and notes together. Some extra comfy clothes cuz you won't have much time to do laundry. Let's see...... a recorder for lectures is a big help, post its or flags that can be written on to mark pages in your text book, either a big backpack or one with wheels cuz with every class you continue on to the heavier the books get. Last but not least, a couple of 3 ring binders to keep all of your papers and syllibus together. Good luck with nursing school :) |

| Posted over 5 years ago Yes, you should get a lap top. All the papers that are due will need to be typed. So at least you could be at home instead of at the library or somewhere else. Very helpful. Maybe your family could get you a gift card for your school book office. There are always extra books that you might like to have....like the mini drug book, or lab book, etc.. I would also recommend a gift card to the nearest coffee place! |

| Posted over 5 years ago ladypettigrew said: All of the advice above is great. I would chose the rolling backpack if I were you, oh right I am just like you. I have used my rolling backpack for 2 years of school. Most useful piece of equipment I bought myself. Tabers, a good lab book, nursing care plan book, Nursing Notes=fits in your pocket for clinicals, note cards, sticky notes, boxes of black pens=I like G-2s. You can have a long list of presents for under the tree and stocking stuffers as well. Best of Luck! You can do it! |

| Posted over 5 years ago I am a mother of 3 and to step children that child support pays out. I am in my first year of nursing and money is so tight. My book sI get through scholarships and part of a pell grant. Look for scholarships they help out and theres many out there. I would not waste the money on a laptop if you are already tight on money. I use my computer at home or a school. I like the idea on Ink and paper. You will use it! a good clipboaed for clinicals is nice too. |

| Posted over 5 years ago When I was in school we never had laptops. It would be a useful tool.It really wasn't that long ago! There something to be said about writing everything out by hand. It relly helps to remember the notes. When there is a back to school sale stock up on composition books, notecards , paper, pens. The classes I took for LPN required us to purchase a bundle of books from the school. It was part of the tuition cost. Check this out before buying any books. Two must have books, care planning and a good drug reference quide. |

| Posted over 5 years ago Wait before buying shoes/crocs too. Many schools have very specific rules as to what is allowed in clinicals... |
