Posted almost 4 years ago Has anyone ever invoked "Safe Harbor" and how did things turn out for you? After 32 years in nursing, the only shift I have the energy for is night shift. Currently, my patient load is 47 with 6 tube feeders by bolus. If people think night nurses are not busy, think again! The facility where I work gives sleeping pills at 7 pm... No Later! So, all my patients come awake after midnight and are in need of me. There is not enough of me to go around. I, also, have to respond to emergency calls form a 149 independent senior living apartment complex. I never know how many times I will be called to leave my floor or how long I will be gone. Two CNA"s are in charge of my patients when ever I have to leave the unit. I just recently heard of Safe Harbor and would love to know of other's experience in invoking it. Thank you for your input, as I have been turned into the Nursing Board.....and, no, no patients were hurt or killed. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago This sounds like a question for CaptainEricRN. I don't know if he has ever used Safe Harbor, but I'll bet he knows a good bit about it. As for your situation there is only one thing I can say...It's crap. I don't see how you can be expected to handle ALL of that yourself! Even with CNA's to help you with the non-nursing tasks that is impossible to do safely/efficiently. I think the nursing board should be investigating your employer and their policies, not you! |
