| Posted almost 4 years ago when i figure out how to decrease stress then maybe i will be able to sleep better, on my 1st day off after 2-3 12hr shifts in a row, i catch up on lost sleep and turn off my phone. my friends and family ask me why i don't answer my phone and my response is if you saw how many times i have to talk on the phone at work, you wouldn't be asking. try getting your patients medications togeather while your phone rings and your are being tapped on the shoulder by someone asking if you're the nurse for "joe smoe" and you are being paged over head to pick up line 2 and you have a patient standing in their door way telling you off because their pain medication was due 5 miniutes ago and another family member upset because you haven't brought their loved one their 9am meds yet and its 9:15am already and thats when a fire drill goes off and you need to respond to the policy and procedure in case it's really a fire and your phone is ringing again over and over. you try do do a dressing change with gloves on and your phone rings, of course you cant answer it, but you hear over head that you have a call holding on line 2. by the time you've finished the dressing change and washed your hands, you answer line 2 and you get told off by the person that was waiting to talk to you . or your manager comes to you and asks why you didn't answer your phone. you try to explain " i was starting an iv", and it goes on and on. so when i'm at home the last thing i feel like doing is answer my phone. only a nurse can relate to this. |
