 ash9, I hear you.... I graduated in May 2010 and still unemployed:( I am volunteering though in LTC facility ... they do not hire now...I have applied everywhere, even home health, haven't even gotten one interview.. BAD BAD BAD SITUATION!

You should check out Wexford Health who has many opportunities throughout the US for correctional healthcare jobs, including various nursing positions.

For all the people that think that there are jobs for new grads please find me one with no mony just for experience bc. I have applied all over USA and I'm willing to go to Alaska just to get that year experience. It is tru I have applied everywere, almost 250 application and no even a answer cortezie back.

 Hi, I graduated from a BSN program in July 2010 & got my RN license in September. I had 2 interviews at the same hospital - did the new hire testing and exceeded requirements only to be passed by for the positions I interviewed for. I had an interview for a Residency program yesterday and am now waiting to hear back as to whether I'll be selected for an interview with the Managers/Directors. I was told I wouldn't hear anything until February and that if I was selected for the program then I wouldn't begin working until April. 


Having said all of that, I'm so frustrated that there are new RN positions posted almost everyday in my area, but most of the hospitals only hire new grads through their residency programs. There are limited positions in each program and of course the number of new grads is growing every semester in this area because we have ADN and BSN programs.


I'm looking for insight into why hospitals have moved to solely hiring into residency programs and how to make myself stand out on resume and during an interview. Both of which I thought I knew, but apparently things that apply in the administrative field don't transfer over well into the nursing field.

 Following up - I secured a PRN position with a HH Company which is good because I'm making a little money here and there and getting some experience too! I interviewed at 2 different hospitals (1 for a nursing position that was not "new grad" and then a 2nd interview for the position I posted previously) - still have not heard back, but have called the recruiters a few times so that's probably not good news, right?! 


I feel like the interviewers are looking at my age and not hiring me because they don't think I'll be "fast enough" or willing to stick with night shift. The reason I have that feeling is because every interviewer (who was the nurse manager not the HR recruiter) has made a big deal about making sure that I'm aware the position is for night shift AND they have also made a point of asking me how I feel that I would be able to fit into the workings of fast paced hospital units after my years of working in the administrative field. ??? I have never worked in an environment that was NOT fast paced and the executives ALL think that their predicament or project IS life or death! I have also managed people and worked in customer service environments where I worked with both internal and external customers to ensure that they had the best experience available or where I worked with them to "fix" problems to their satisfaction.  


I'm considering relocating and will be perusing on line news papers and other sites to hopefully find a job. Does anyone out there know of an area that is currently desperate for nurses?
