Posted almost 4 years ago The US government is calling on thousands of men, women and children to volunteer to test out the first swine flu vaccine. Would you step up? Would you encourage friends and family to volunteer? |

Posted almost 4 years ago Yes, I would volunteer for a trial vaccine. My daughter when she was an infant, participated in the new DPaT vaccine, that in the end proved to reduce side effects over the DPT vaccine that was being given. The swine flu has currently infected over 40,000 people in the United States alone. As a healthcare worker, I expect that I WILL be exposed to the virus. It is just a matter of time.

Posted almost 4 years ago Yes I would, and I will have my entire family try it. This year, I almost had to be hospitalized, because of the flu. I read some material on the influenza vaccination, and heard that it doesn't bring the flu on, I hear that it is also in a nasal spray also. I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California. I've worked as a heathecare provider for almost 10 years. I am curently in school to pursue my MSN in nursing, and wants to work as a pediactric nurse, in public health.

Posted over 3 years ago Yes, I would be willing to participate. Swine flu(H1N1) is affecting my community. If I have already chosen to live(nursing) would I also not be ready to help save my community.

| Posted over 3 years ago There is no way I would volunteer to do this trial, nor would I get the vaccine on a voluntary basis.

Posted over 3 years ago I agree; that article was definately written by a nut job. I will get the H1N1 vaccine as soon as it is available in my area. We've already had a number of cases in my area, including one of my students, who had the wit to call me and ask if she should come to school. Fortunately, the college has a policy in place. She stayed home for week and did take home work to keep up. Fortunately for her, my lectures are online.

Posted over 3 years ago I would get the vaccine, especially now that we are headed into clinicals at the hospital and our little community has already been hit with several cases of H1N1. Our college also has a plan in place and for the most part is prepared.

Posted over 3 years ago I will not receive the vaccine, nor will i have my children vaccinated. The vaccine is preserved with mercury, a practice that was mostly done away with in 2003 because of it's toxic effects on the CNS.

Posted over 3 years ago Hmm, I'm not sure that I would volunteer myself for a "Trial run". I work in a private practice, so I think it makes more sense for someone in a hospital where you're exposed to a lot more, but I'm personally going to wait for a bit until they work out the kinks. I hardly ever get the flu when the season rolls around, so I'm hoping that will work in my favor.

Posted over 3 years ago I will get the swine flu shot when it is available. If you read respectable and responsible medical and nursing journals about it, you will see that is is safe. The articles by these nut jobs like doubletired posted are worthless. I want the protection and I will get it. Nursing demands extremely high ethics red44pc@yahoo.com

Posted over 3 years ago Swine Flu shot is a personal choice, it is less virulent this time around then what it was in the 70's. More people became sick from this shot and died then they did from the flu itself. The regular seasonal flu kills about 36,000 people/yr. I think education is the key. The FDA is not thourougly checking this shot out, that is coming from China. That's scary in itself

Also, the flu does not kill 36,000 ppl a year. it kills approx 3000 ppl per year (or much less), the other 33,000 die from pnumonia or other complications "related" to the flu. there is zero evidence that the flu vaccine protects you from the virus, it is stated on the info sheet for the shot. There has been no reduction in the rate of deaths in the elderly since the flu vaccine has been introduced. it is estimated that 80% of the geriatric community receive the shot each year yet the death rate associated with the virus remains the same. In 2005, Dr. Simonsen, who was then at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in Bethesda, Md., published a paper in The Archives of Internal Medicine that found something odd: even though the percentage of older people who got an annual flu shot more than tripled from 1980 to 2001, there was no corresponding drop in the death rate. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/02/health/02flu.html In 1976 a single case of so-called“swine flu” in one overworked,chilled-to-the-bone army recruitcaused his swift death. The fear thisstruck in the USA resulted innationwide flu shots which caused thedeath of 30 and Guillain-Barreparalysis in over 500 citizens .10 |

Posted over 3 years ago my kids go to school with many many kids who do not get vaccinated. our school nurse sees whooping cough and rheumatic fever and measles . we have the highest numbers of these diseases in the nation! this is because we live on the border of mexico and their country and its gov don't believe in vaccinations either. great!

Posted over 3 years ago maybe1711: not ALL flu vaccines have thimerosal. The vaccines for small children and pregnant women do not contain the thimerosal. Check the CDC website.

Posted over 3 years ago As the mother of FIVE CHILDREN, my kids have always gotten vaccines. My oldest is 23 years old, and just recently took his FIRST TRIP to the ER for a fracture, he got the vaccines when they ALL had mercury in them. My other four kids, also have had EVERY available vaccination, and the only ER trips they have had are for stitches or fractures. As for claims of Autism.....Jett Travolta never had a vaccine. John Travolta has acknowledged that he had Autism. Additonally, one has to wonder if Jett Travolta had been properly medicated, if he would have had seizures. Without vaccines how many of your kids would have had POLIO, or died of one of Dozens of preventable illness. Kids that aren't vaccinated and don't contract a life threatening illness, should thank their lucky stars and their neighbors for properly vaccinating his kids.

Posted over 3 years ago I am NOT a promoter of "vaccination paranoia." There is an odd case for every vaccine, but they still serve a wonderful purpose in the prevention of severe illnesses with no otherwise-known cure. If the news reports are correct, 25% of the fatalities from H1N1 Virus have been occuring amoung CHILDREN. That is scary. You would expect it to be the elderly and infirm, but not so much. Jeannie

Posted about 3 years ago before deciding against the vac i would spend time doing some research. in our hospital we have a 92% vac rate for staff meaning almost everyone got it! that is quite some data there!! use your critical thinking skills and be proactive that is all part of being a good nurse!
